Bad news for "Half Fast"

It just seems that way. When my wife points out that I changed lanes in front of another car I explain to her that turn signals give information to the enemy. If you turn you signal on they know you are trying to get in front of them and they speed up to cut you off. You have to jump in before they realize what's happening.

That’s not unique to Florida, though. I learned that tactic while driving in Boston. People up there don’t drive defensively; they drive offensively.

Be advised if you move to Florida, you must gradually assimilate to Florida Man culture.
We have a flight school on our field operated by a nice fellow from New Jersey. I used to chuckle at him showing up in the summer wearing a collared shirt tucked in to khaki trousers and docksider loafers. He has gradually relaxed his attire. Soon I expect him to be giving lessons shirtless, wearing cutoff jean shorts and Crocs, sporting a mullet, and carrying a small alligator, a bottle of tequila, and fireworks.
When we moved to Florida from the west coast, I was surprised at how many men tuck their shirt in, especially t-shirts with shorts. It’s like a little time capsule from 35 years ago.

Ah, the Redneck Riviera in Lower Alabama. Living in Pensacola had some nice points, but even taking the dog for a walk in summer leaves you looking like you ran a marathon.

Nice, but avoid the place during spring break.

Or summer from what I've heard. We spent parts of fall and winter here in years past. I think we'll keep it that way going forward, just with more flexibility and longer stays now that we live closer and have our own place. During spring and summer this place is supposed to pay for the mortgage lol.

rules for driving around Boston include

- the wreck has the right of way

- never ever get caught looking at the other car.

- don't jump the green... a lot of people will run the yellow, pink, and right lights. (particularly important for drivers from areas that will jump the green - I'm looking at you NY/NJ drivers...)

If get far away from the Boston area, these rules are no longer applicable.

:yeahthat:

Learned that one on my first business trip to Boston. I was complaining about how many times I was cut off by another car, and the Bostonian I was meeting with said, "Oh, you made eye contact, didn't you? Don't do that. If they know you see them, they're sure you won't hit them."

And he was absolutely correct.

Florida is the only place I look left and right at a green light.
Need to do the same here in Gallup. Stop at a red light and risk getting hit from behind. Go through a green light and risk a T-bone. Do only 30mph over the speed limit and risk getting hit from behind. Absolutely no traffic enforcement, except when the state police are in town, usually once a month. Then a LOT of tickets are issued.

Where you going to keep the plane? The big airport or one of the smaller ones?

Don't know yet. Right now I'm at a smaller one nearby but don't love it due to the inconvenience. I think if I find hangar space, I'll go anywhere within an hour's drive. If I have to be on the ramp, I go to the big one.

Keep two things in mind:

1. I moved to Dallas last year so I am now making real dollars.
2. Canukistan might soon become Canamarica when we become the 51st state so I wouldn't be a foreigner anymore.

Plane upgrade: Nope, still very much liking the Comanche. I don't think I'll ever get rid of it.
So if a hurricane heads toward Texas you stay in Florida? And vice versa? But you started in Canada so does that mean the polar vortex is following you? How do you know a hurricane won’t follow you too?

I should be safe from hurricanes up in Dallas. Might get hit by bowling ball sized hail, but hurricanes shouldn't be a problem up there.
