I found carpet in baggage area was wet, rear and front seat areas were dry.

Plane is 1974 182 P model, sits on tie down.

Rear window seal, baggage door seal, or something else?

The two biggest culprits for wet baggage floor carpet is the baggage door seal or rear window seal. Time to get a hose and wet the window and look for moisture then do the same around the baggage door. If it is the window it will need to be removed and resealed for the best result. If you have to replace the baggage door seal, I recommend the Aircraft Door Seals brand non self adhesive seal. You have to remove the old seal and all of the adhesive and apply 3M 08001 weatherstrip adhesive and new seal exactly as per the instructions. The door will never leak again.

My guess would be the window seal, unless you recall recent driving rain that would have been impacting on the baggage door. I don't see vertical rain causing a lot of leakage on the door.

But Robin's suggestion to get the hose, or at least a big sprinkler can, and test it yourself, will provide the answer you seek.

Rear window is fairly infamous for that I think. Mine does but it’s hangared so rarely an issue.

A freind of mine recently had his aztec painted. They sealed his windows externally with a black sealant. Looked nice to me and would seal your windows up without removal I would say.

Maybe covers areas with a tarp to check?

Possibly a custom cover may help.

My guess is the plastic windows and metal frames expand/contract

at different rates. Any sealant must account for that . Researching

Pro-Seal/PRC/DeSoto products will reveal an external sealant.

Lots of shops use a version of Proseal (fuel tank sealant) for that.

Had two c182 and a Mooney. They all leaked in heavy rain. Get a hanger if possible.
