hey yall i’m a 23 year old community college drop out. i have a not so serious “dilemma”. my very last semester (this was after i got my AA; still needed some classes) i bombed every class because that’s when i decided to drop out so i didn’t bother turning in any corse work. consequences of that my GPA TANKED. a pretty big part of me wanted a real college experience. I’m looking at Auburn Flight School. My plan is to get my PPL in advance. would me getting my private at another 141 institution (before i get my checkride for instrument rating) substitute in for previous grades, or am i SOL ? I do have a full time job which probably is irrelevant to the topic lol.

I’m guessing he’s talking Auburn University, Auburn AL. I guess I don’t understand your question. Are you looking to enroll and pursue an aviation degree with an eye on an aviation career? If so your flight experience won’t help your academic shortcomings. If you’re looking to simply get ratings to pursue an aviation career then there are other options.

yea i know was a pretty weird question. but both lol

My advice is contact the admissions office and see where you stand. If you aren’t eligible they should be able to tell you what you can do to become eligible. Otherwise you could go to a flight school like ATP or just your nearest flight school and nug through the necessary ratings one by one and then get hired as CFI to build the necessary hours.

You have to decide what you’re trying to accomplish, then knuckle down and get it done. Do you want to be a commercial pilot,or an educated administrator. Good luck

Time does not go from one 141 program to another very well.

If you want that time to count I recommend 61 training. 141 is a pretty terrible deal mostly.

Its highest and best use practically is to allow a school to get VA money.

Its theoretical best use is for a custom course (VERY RARE) and in house examining (burdensome and not very common).

A bachelor degree in aviation will get you a restricted atp at 1000 hours I believe. Auburn is not cheap and at 23 your behind already. Pick a Florida 141 school, Florida has a ton of them and get going. Maybe keep your day job and fly afternoons and weekends.

Username checks.
The good news is that you don’t have to worry about what ratings will transfer until you get accepted.

I’m utterly confused by this question, but I’ll try. No, possessing an FAA private pilot certificate will not take an eraser to ye old transcript.

Second, having a private pilot certificate may actually prevent you from being able to do Auburn’s 141 program; you’d have to check with the AU aviation department to see how they’d handle that.

Without being a jerk to you, you need some maturing before you go a quarter million dollars in debt for “the college experience” at 23 years old.
