NA Convert a bulb outlet to an outlet outlet

I am thinking that the top black wire is power in, the bottom wire goes through the light and the black wire on the screw is a pass through so downstream outlets are not dependent on the switch being on.
That makes me think the new combo unit needs 2 hot wires so they are independent from one another. I need to think about this for a minute.

Edit: Or I am thinking If I connect the power in to the black screw for the switch, then I have set it up so the switch controls the plug but if I connect it to the black screw on the "outlet" then the plug is always on and the switch now controls the light and the outlet becomes the pass through.
 
"Hot" connects to one of the black screws to provide power to the outlet and the switch (the switch / plug has a jumper between the two black screws) . Silver screw is the "Neutral" and gets connected to the white wires. Brass screw goes to the black wire that goes to your light.

Based on your picture, some dingle doofus connected two black wires to the bottom of the switch - one under the screw and one backwired (back wiring sucks). I assume that this is the power in from the breaker and back out to further downstream stuff and you would want these connected to the black screw(s). And, I would assume that the single wire at the top is to the fixture - that would go to the brass screw.

When you assume you make an ass out of u and me.

Best to turn off the breaker. Expose the black and white wires. Turn on the breaker. Then touch your tongue between black and white pairs. When you wake up in the hospital you will know that you found the power from the breaker.

Or use a meter.

edit: To get the switch to control the attached outlet (what you don't want) you would break the jumper between the two black screws, power to the top black screw (switch "in"), connect a wire between the brass screw (switch "out") and the bottom black screw (outlet "in").

Ok, that is the conclusion I have gotten to just slowly and with the assistance of AI looking at my images and also pointing out the dingle doofus wiring of the contractors that built this house.
I was just about to do the tongue thing and then remembered I have a small collection of tongue simulators that beep and light up. Since I lack health insurance at the moment, I will use one of those for this project.

The existing switch is just sending power in and back out downstream.
My guess is the power is coming in the black wire connected to the screw and going out the top to the light and the other bottom black wire is a pass through.
Neutral is bypassing the switch altogether.

What I am not sure about is if the potential new switch is a single circuit or 2.
I don't want the light switch to control the outlet. I want the outlet always on and the switch just to control the current light fixture.

Is the location where you will be mounting the e-Calendar (and at which you require the power therefor) adjacent or very near to the switch for the pantry light?
 
OK!

So, how'd you do it?
 
Cut a hole through the wall behind the calendar. Then, I cut a hole in the other side ran into the cable around the door using cord races to hide it.
Swapped the light switch in the pantry with a combination light switch electrical outlet.

Heck ya, a smart consumer. I’ve been in a few different food production facilities for many different products and always find it amusing how the same products on the same lines with different labels applied cost different amounts in the grocery store shelves depending on the whole sale purchaser. Some spend a lot on marketing/advertising and charge a premium, some cut costs to the bone and rely on price. Next time your in a grocery store canned good isle look at the actual things printed on ends of the cans, not the labels, you might be very surprised.

We buy private label (Great Value and Kirklands) for most of our food goods, stuff comes from all of the same places anyway. The only things I buy that are name brand is Heinz ketchup and Dukes mayo.
 
What is the make/model of the calendar display, and where did you get it? May make a good Christmas gift for my kids

Its the Skylight @Skyrys62 linked above.
It is super helpful at this point in our lives.

It has many different functions and when not in use, it scrolls a photo slideshow. Or you can set it to go to sleep.
 
You all assumed I was demeaning the selection of store brand foodstuffs. On the contrary, putting that fact on the resume will be a fast track to a Part 121 job.

Someone in our house may or may not have been caught putting Great Value Ketchup in a Heinz squeeze bottle when a certain child would not accept anything less. ;)

Ah yes. Brings up the old family story about my uncle wanting jeans from a particular store. My grandmother, who was in her teens during the Great Depression and a newlywed during WWII, bought the same cheap jeans, went to the particular store and asked for a box, put the cheap jeans in the brand name box and wrapped it up for Christmas. Uncle was none the wiser until many years later...

And if you add a shortcut to the calendar in your startup, you don't forget to check it so often.

For anyone interested....Winkey+R, then type, shell:startup, add whatever shortcuts you want there.
