Pretty simple question, but I’ve read a bunch of different information online, including documents from the FAA.

I didn’t really think about it but prior to my outpatient surgery coming up, my doctor prescribed oxycodone as well as 800 mg ibuprofen with that I’m not worried about.

I maintain a first class medical and will be off of work for a week and a half not flying. The surgery itself has nothing to do with holding a medical. However, after thinking about it, I think my best bet is to not pick up the prescription of OXY, ond just tough it out.

Am I correct in this thinking or is it OK to get the extra pain medication and just use it for a day or two after the surgery if I really need it and then stop taking it before I return to work about 10 days after.

In a year when I fill out my new MedExpress for another Medical, I’m not looking for issues because I put down that I took that medication 11 months ago for two days.

Yes, you'll be fine taking it and then going back to work a week later. And you won't be required to disclose the medication on your next medical unless you're still taking it at that time. There's no question about past prescriptions. You will need to disclose the condition and the surgery.

Thanks for the speedy reply. I forgot about it asking about only current medications. The goal is to avoid it all together but I’m not above it if it’s needed for a couple of days.

Unless you are on a HIMS issuance, this is how it should be.
If you are on a HIMS SI, make sure your HIMS AME is appraised!
