How to make the best pilot possible?

Considering that last time I checked, the average to get the PP was around 65 hours or so, 50 hours is not enough time.

TL,DNR but I would start with Glider Training through Solo. Then tailwheel, also through solo. After that, to make the best pilot, the rest of the training would be in a Complex AND High Performance aircraft.

As if another 250 hours of flying a 172 would solve that? I'm going to say that quality of hours is more important than quantity at that point. Even 10 hours of tailwheel will force an improvement in quality.

There is 500 hours of experience and then there is 1 hour of experience repeated 500 times.

Unfortunately, the best way to get good experience to instruct is to instruct.
