AME’s that work well with people with Special Issuances?

I’m looking to becoming a pilot but was diagnosed with Asperger’s and ADHD when I was a kid. I’m no longer showing any symptoms of both now that I’m an adult, but they are both still going to show up in my medical records. Does anyone here know of any AME’s that are more “sympathetic” and have experience with working with people in my situation?
 
It's not the sympathy of the AME you need. They don't have the discretion here. You need a knowledgeable one who can help you put together the stuff you'll need to attempt to get certified.

Unfortunately, the combination of those two items in your history is not going to bode well for you. You're going to need quite a battery of tests to convince the FAA.

Yes, there are such AMEs all over the country. And there are several who post regularly here. Where are you located?
 
The overwhelming question(s) to be answered by the HIMS psychiatrist and HIMS AME will be:
(1) Do you have any documentable leadership positions among peers, in your adult life?
(2) By suprervisor letters- is he functional in adult life?

The problem with Aspergers (of course a spectrum) is with maritime law whcih governs aviation. While Asea, the captain (PIC) is responsbile for the aircraft and for the safe completion of the trip. He is both the Baliff and and Judge. Since the def. of Aseprgers' centers on defective interhuman interactions, FAA wants some evidence that their man (YOU) will "get it right".

For example if you are a coder and work alone, this is not likely to be met with a lot of success. However if you have a good track rcecord (substantiatable) of managmenet interaction, thsi could work out favorable.

Number 2 wouldn’t be hard to get, but number 1 may be a bit tricky. How would you recommend someone get that? I am a host and a server so I do at times have to tell people what to do, and don’t mind doing so.
 
It's a spectrum, Jon. when it gets bad enough those are really the last of whom you want to be your surgeon, or your pilot. And that is the conundrum for FAA.

I have only succeeded twice in 25 years. One went to Horizon and is now working a legacy carrier. The other flies a C182. But the hoops were many and it's not for the faint of heart, wallet nor persistence. But one could tell on first person encounter these two were going to make it.

And to Matt: I'd say ask supervisor who made you a "lead".
