Lockheed Martin

I do. We worked at Pax together. Good guy. Tell him I said Howdy!

I think we may have spoken before on another forum about this same topic. lol.
Had to go look....yeah, back in 2021....time flies

Another paths crossing story involved the A-12 Program. After the Program was cancelled by DoD, GD/MacAir sued the government because they claimed the Navy had approved everything they did. The DoD had cancelled the A-12 because it was totally FUBAR and it was all GD/MacAir at fault.

So I got hired by the law firm representing GD as an expert witness. After running up a suitable bill, I wrote up my findings that the Navy really had approved all the work. Then everybody met in DC to thrash things out. As I walked into the ring, to my surprise, I see several retired heavy breathers from GD I had worked with on the F-111 and F-16. Turns out that me, the retired Engineer from the USAF was on the contractor side and the retired GD guys were on the government side.

IIRC, the whole thing got settled by the GD/MacAir team giving Uncle Sam a REALLY good deal on some F-18’s and Uncle Sam paid a lot of what GD/MacAir claimed they were owed. And the lawyers (and their lackeys like me) did pretty well.

Yeah what a story huh? I've only read about it, didn't participate (I was a kid at the time). But to be fair, there was a lot of technology/engineering transfer from the A-12 to what eventually became the block 2 super hornet. Which was/is probably a better airplane than the A-12 ever would have been for the Navy......in light of the F-14 and A-6 sundowns at least. I might be biased though. But it was really interesting reading the white papers that led to things like the 5000 PSI high speed hyd system, or what eventually became the APG-79, or IDECM. Cool stuff, I've just been the much younger beneficiary

LM on the Orion software at Waterton.
Then over to ULA on both Atlas and Vulcan.
When RTO was invoked in 2021, I left (as did my entire team and the manager) and I ended up as university faculty. Less than half the money, much more work but lots more fun.

I was extensively involved in the IEC system the LM was the prime on delivery to the various intelligence groups. If you've ever come across a software program called RemoteView, that was mine. If you used ELT/7000, it had a good chunk of my code in the display chain on it.

Ok… I’ll play. I spent a lot of time in FW as part of the AF SPO for the F-22, and then JSF. On JSF spent a lot of time in Palmdale as well. Had a lot of fun arguments with a flight control lead at FW named Kent Clark. Any of you guys know him?

They were kind enough to pay for my MS, but neglected to inform me that I would need a PhD to navigate the travel reimbursement software.

LOL! Yeah, that's why we had secretaries and admins.

Come to think of it, they paid for my MS, too. Pretty good deal. They would have paid for a PhD, too, and I was accepted into the program, but in the last semester of my Master's I met this really cute brunette, and next I knew I was married with two kids and a Taurus station wagon. C'est la vie.

And here I thought you were a smart and educated fellow. Not sure I trust your judgement now.

* just kidding, of course.

Oh, I learned. Boy, did I learn!

Long story that I won't go into, but I bought it used and got a 72k mile warranty from Ford. Man, they knew MTBF on that car cold because it began to self-destruct at 72,001 miles. We were on our way back to Florida, having been in NC on vacation, when the radiator developed a leak. I added water at every stop and got home okay, took it to the dealer the following day. By that point the odometer had rolled just over 72k. Nope, sorry, warranty is gone, no coverage.

And from then on that car was a rolling restoration. Even the flippin' cup holder broke. I finally got hit by a tourist one night on the way home from work and State Farm blessedly totaled the thing.

Easily the worst car I ever owned.
