GNC255 Database updates

I recently got a used GNC255 installed in my panel. I got Garmin to allow me to add the 255 to the rest of my Garmin avionics so I can update the frequency DB. What sort of USB connector do I need to perform this update. What type of USB port does it have? I didn’t get any special USB cables with the unit when it was installed.

IIRC, you need USB 2.0 Micro USB-A Male to USB-A Female Adapter.

If I recall correctly, the GNC255 has a USB Micro-AB (2.0) receptacle.

Just make sure that it's got all the wires connected... There are many "charging only" type cables for sale out there that will not function correctly in this sort of application.
 
Will a USB micro B male work? It’s hard to find a micro A anymore. Most cables have the flat D shape for the micro side.
 
Also what size of flash drive or SD card is required to copy the DB?

Thumb drive, don't think there are any size restrictions. I use a 16g. The file is tiny, so anything should work.

The picture in post #3 has female along the X-axis and male along the Y-axis.
 
Unit should have come with a white USB-A female to micro-USB male adapter. You put the data on a thumb drive, then plug it into the adapter which then plugs into the socket under a little cover on the front upper right of the unit. Follow prompts on screen after that.

It should have but when planes get sold they get lost.

When you buy a plane these days be sure to ask for all disks, accessories, manuals, etc.
 
 
 
Yes this 255 was a used unit installed by my avionics shop but I didn’t get the USB cable. I got one from Amazon and had a flash drive, so I was able to update the DB yesterday. It all worked fine. So my 255 is up to date now. Thx everyone.
