A&P or avionics shop?

The A&P installed the G5 as the AI. The avionics shop installed the 2nd G5 as the HSI.
Am I correct in thinking that the A&P can do the software upgrade on the G5-AI but the avionics shop must to the same to the G5-HSI?
 
Either can do both.
Interesting....Guess I was wrong thinking the avionics shop had to do the HSI because it has to be recertified for the avionics. Fantastic! I can bring the new sim cards to the shop on Friday! yay!

Both legal as stated earlier, I would go with the lesser priced option
 
New software for G5 came out last week. 8.27 for certified units. Either can perform the update.
 
Takes 2-4 years to become a avionics technician or A&P technician. Avionics technician has an average salary a little higher than the average A&P. The avionics technician works in heated aircraft or hangar in the winter and cool aircraft in the summer the A&P if lucky works in a heated hangar or outside in the cold. Avionics in the past had a FCC GROL license with radar endorsement i do not believe it's required any more now if they do not have a A&P they get a repairman cert to work on planes, the A&P has to take the FAA required test to obtain the license.
