Getting old sucks. My doctor wants me on a very firm (not quite the floor) mattress for my back (a bit of arthritis in the lower back). I've got one of those high-end air mattresses - the Select Comfort. I posted a note on the neighborhood board - free - so far no takers. Is this normal? It's not the conventional mattress which by law, must be tossed. The cover can easily be washed (well, it takes the big washer at the laundromat) and the rest of it is the frame. Any ideas or do I just toss the air mattress in the garbage and the frame in recycling?

I had no idea there was a law stating the used mattresses needed to be tossed. I got rid of a king and two twins on Craigslist when I moved to SF. In fact someone came the same day, which I wasn't anticipating. They wanted the bedding too, even though I had slept on it the night before! Ended up sleeping the next two weeks on a camping air mattress...

If you are looking for a really firm mattress, try Big Fig. It’s for obese people, but it is very firm.

Looks like Craigslist is next…

Already got a custom, really like it.

It must suck to be a motel owner.

There use to be a place in Los Angeles that was a mattress recycle operation... they would strip them for the inner springs and such. I only come to discover it one day when visiting one of our contractor's operation when I saw a bunch of Jed Clamppet looking trucks parked around the block waiting for the place to open..
