Does anyone know the whereabouts or status of Howard Fried, former DPE, aviation author and columnist? I'd like to get in touch with him if he's still alive. I can't find any columns since about 2003, and I can't find any social media presence or recent mentions online, but I also can't find an obituary. Does anyone here know more?

Unfortunately, I believe he passed in 2009, age 84. Mike Busch could probably confirm that.

I never really much cared for his columns, but I did get to spend some time talking to him (this was in the middle of his battle to get is DPE back) and seemed to be a generally nice guy. That was 25 years and he was no spring chicken back then. But I start he was still alive in 2019.
 
Dang auto correct. I suspect I meant to see I found a reference to him saying something in 2019 unless the site I was reading recycled some old article he wrote.
