Straight cut, punch, wedge, or just chew them off??

I used to use a wedge, but I lost my cutter. Trying to figure what to try..??

Used to punch them, got tired of that. Just received a cutter for Father’s Day. What is a “wedge”?

Straight cuts, cut the wrapper, binder, and filler creating a straight path for the burn front. Punches and wedges force the smoke around a corner before entering your mouth making the filler more likely to tunnel.
 
Been a wedge guy for a long time, but have used a punch and straight cut before.

I may have to give the straight a chance again.

I keep a nice straight, v and punch on hand.

They each have their place but I use the straight for the majority of my cuts. Can’t remember the last time I used a punch.

I do like using the v set a little shallow to make two perpendicular cuts on larger gauge sticks.

This cutter is my goto straight cut. You should get one. They are awesome.

My preferred smoke is an Excalibur, box pressed, where available, in maduro or oscuro wrapper. If not prensado, another of their robusto sizes. I most like to use a punch with that, for a clean tip that doesn't flake off shards of filler or wrapper; V-cuts do that a lot to me. Straight cuts are fine because I more typically have a decent enough guillotine cutter at hand than a punch or a sharpened brass. Also straight cut if I happen to pick up a torpedo of some sort; punch no good.

Thanks for reminding me; I need to go cigar shopping for a party this weekend.
 
Straight mostly, once in a while punch.

I'm a punch man. Even on the chisel shaped cigar ends (You just punch the flat). I have an AVO punch on my keychain.
 
Haven’t had a cigar in awhile now, waiting for good balcony weather. As I recall, punch cuts are stronger hits, so I usually do a punch or straight cut. I’ll try a wedge next time, I probably did it once but I had a cheapie tool, sometimes it’s nice to pull out the nice tool. Also there is Perfectdraw which is basically a pin hole, that is nice too, you can order that one on Amazon. I use all of them.

I usually bring a good selection to rough river but no one typically partakes so I didn't do it this year. I do enjoy a stogie while camping in cool weather.

That's the academic answer since it's now an academic question. I gradually stopped smoking cigars a while back. I still have a few Cuban Hoyo de Monterey double coronas that have been in my humidor since the mid 1990s... I don't know who's going to smoke them, but I do know that even 10 years ago they were absolutely divine. These days I smoke a pipe, preferring English or Balkan blends but my taste in pipe tobacco is fairly eclectic - as long as it's not an overly goopy aromatic.

I grew some tobacco in the back yard last year. There's a couple pounds of kilned Virginia leaf and probably half a pound of Turkish Samsun curing while I decide what to do with it. I didn't get any planted in time this spring but may grow some wrapper leaf next year and roll a few cigars. I did try an impromptu cigarillo with a VA leaf wrapped around a Turkish leaf one day, and it was actually quite good.

Since I lost my wedge cutter, I been using the chew method.
Actually works pretty good.
 
This thing I like about the wedge is I think it gives the most open area for an easy draw.
Some cigars seem wrapped a bit tight and the draw can be a bit rough.
 
@DaleB I’ve got a couple tins of Latakia stashed away from when I hoarded a few of what I thought were the last remaining stocks. When I bought it, life wasn’t as short, lol. It was wonderful stuff. Gonna look for em tomorrow.
 
Straight cut. The real question is, what is your go to cigar to straight cut?
 
I used to love the low end Padron x000 series. They were my favorite. After covid, they tasted like asphalt to me. I gave them all away sadly.

Any AF is great, but love their Don Carlos and Hemingway Short Stories best.

I might try another Padron soon as it’s been a few years.
 
I used to get Flor Dominicana Double Liqs by the box, but the local cigar place doesn't have them anymore for some reason.
Fuente's are nice.
Usually now smoke Rocky's of various models.
