Looking for other PA-28 pilots to follow on social media

Reddit.com ?

You know he’s a wannabe social media type.. it’s about trying to build some sort of cred and following…
Gotta start somewhere. Have you watched any of my digital media before you pass judgement? You know nothing about me. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to waste your day posting to a thread that clearly was not intended for.

Murphey, Thanks for taking the time to respond to this post. Seeing you have time to post, check out this right tailing crosswind I had 3 weeks ago flying into Oxford, CT. I have always struggled with these throughout the years. Being a newbie an all. I'm current building my seat time weekly and recording myself to improve as a PIC. Thanks for watching.

So, uh, what’s your favorite AK variant Mr. Warrior? And are you a Brandon Herrera fan?

I think I read, "I want to spy on people and give up all my privacy in the hopes of becoming famous."

You mistake my interest. I didn’t watch, will not watch. Watching 99.99% of online videos is like suffering thru relatives’ vacation photos.

Bummer ... wait, what if I throw in a free t-shirt, coffee mug or bandanna.

When I played counter-strike in my 20's I was pretty good using the AK-47. But that does not count. Just like playing flight sim games growing up, they surely can't make you a better pilot.

Watching someone fly is like watching some play video games. I just don't get the allure. I'll watch if there's value. Either entertainment or educational. Flying into a charlie at night doesn't check either box for me. And free merch won't pique my interest.

BUT THERE WAS A CROSSWIND!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a Cessna 150 ,just got an invitation to join the new pa28 page on Facebook.

For me to watch a flying video, it either has to have interesting airplanes (usually biplanes or antiques, not flying minivans), or great scenery (a few, but not all, of the current crop of bushplane videos), or be amusing or otherwise entertaining. "Pilots landing made armpits sweat due to crosswind" is not gonna get my click!

And I rarely "like" and never "subscribe", let alone "follow" anybody.

I really enjoy following YouTube channels related to General Aviation. Aviation101 is a favorite with beautiful production, lots of information, and insight into flying. I also enjoy the SoCal Flying Monkey guy, FlyWithKaye, and channels feature planes I would love to fly if I had the license. I actually enjoy seeing how "ordinary" pilots grapple with moving their proficiency limits, learning to cope with new situations, etc. I like that content, I subscribe to the channels, and enjoy them.
So if you don't watch this stuff, why do you need to put a guy down just because he wants to do it? I don't see any real point to ****ing on someone just because you wouldn't enjoy what they are doing.

i think there are a few who have become or were already video artists so they tend to be just fun to watch. Then there are those whose content contains value for something specific. A “how to” for something I’m interested in. A flight to a new airport I’m thinking of flying to. Jerry botching another instrument procedure. But most are ho-hum and I don’t even watch all the videos from the people I subscribe to.

I'm smiling because I'm usually one of the grumpy ones. I like PA-28's. Second model of aircraft I've flown. What's not to like about an airplane with the glide profile of a sewing machine? So I get wanting to talk about them.

Unless you count this place I don't do social media. Never understood it...I talk to people all day at work, because I get paid for it. Here I'm mostly here to learn, from people way more experienced than me. Other social media? I don't get it. To lookup how to do something? Sure...learned how to program the thermometer on my stove that way. But following someone? I don't understand it. On the plus side, I just learned that twitter and facebook are still around...I figured they had gone the way of Compuserve by now.

Now I'm smiling because I'm thinking "not the grumpiest" in the context of here is maybe a little bit like saying you're a polite person from New York.

Good morning to all the cranky Pilots that don't watch other Pilots videos. This post is not meant for you (your loss). :D For the rest of us that love aviation, here is my return flight back into Hartford from last Saturday. I was tired from the 1.7-hour cross country and had some CO in the cockpit (found that out after landing) I was still focused on flying the plane just really relaxed at the end and had to add a little power just before flaring as my sense of sink rate was off. The video is enhanced with Adobe After Effects due to the low lighting and GoPro settings. I highly suggest watching it on HD with max resolution so you can see all the tiny car lights along the Putnam Bridge. I think it looks cool. Have a great Sunday. Below if the route into Final Approach.

How do you Handle a Long Cross Country returning at night, I was not ready to be that tired?

I'd take a nap and fly the next day after failing the IMSAFE checklist.

Are you seriously trying to alienate your potential audience? Somebody needs to go read about how to win friends and influence people and this is not the way.

Well if OP can’t take a few comments here maybe social media is not for him in reality.

And posting about CO at night? People are sensitive after the lady who was a train wreck and then killed herself and her dad.

Raising awareness for PIREPs in Episode 16; good idea, and somewhat unique (not often shared by content creators).
The topic generated helpful feedback in comments (youtube/reddit), and interesting to see more than one FSS specialist offered encouragement.
For accuracy, linking to Bold Method article was appropriate (especially as it appears both you and your audience are learning). Well done!

In case helpful, a few thoughts to consider:
- If (for example), pre-flight briefing indicates Airmet Tango for turbulence, and flight conditions matched that at advertised altitudes, a PIREP might still be helpful ... but less so.
- If flight conditions do not match Airmet/Sigmet, or are not consistent with forecast Front activity, then a PIREP is especially helpful.
- When including PIREP information, consider how useful each of these examples would be:
(a) Continuous moderate TB at 3,500
vs
(b) Continuous moderate TB, surface to 3,500. Negative TB abv 4,000.

PIREP (b) provides info that other pilots may decidely act upon ... VFR climb to 5,500, etc.

Thanks for being open to, and inviting, constructive feedback.
Hope the input you are receiving will help with learning, and sharing your aviation enjoyment in PA28.

TIP: convention is to include a disclaimer in youtube videos that content is not provided for purpose of instruction; only for entertainment.

Thank you MikeNY, I think the disclaimer is a good idea as I am still learning after each flight as with posting this content online, just winging it the past few weeks (intentional pun). I really appreciate the feedback.

I am not aware about the lady and her father. The CO meter last week was reading 19 upon landing and was set to alarm at 25. I was reminding myself and others to check it at night, as its not on any check list in the airplane. I get into a habit of checking it during the day VFR when the heater is on. It has gone off a couple times this past winter. Could you share some more information about that? I can take comments, am I not allowed to bust balls back or is this one way?

No I am not, That book was written 100 years ago. I did read it about 25 years ago, once when I was in my Tony Robbins phase. Thanks for the advice.

I hope you all had a great safe Sunday. I went flying this morning and have to say it was an off flight as it did not go as planned. I spent most of the afternoon, back at homebase going over the many little issues that added up to the disappointing flight. I have not had one of these flights in a long time. I'm going over a pilot debrief with myself. All I can do is learn from the flight and use the knowledge to improve. This just reminds me I still have a lot to learn.

And for the record, I started my YouTube channel six weeks ago to help myself improve my landings and radio comms. When I began to share the videos with my friends and family that sparked something inside to try and record this journey of mine. I have zero clue on how to run a YouTube channel and am pretty much doing it "on-the-fly". All I can do is be honest. And when I make a mistake, I will admit it. I was reminded today up in the air, that I am just a human and still have a lot to learn.

So, that being said. I'm not going to use this forum for a dumping ground for my videos to get views. Thats pointless. I'm on a journey and if you want to follow me then please do. I do not want to alienate my fellow pilot friends; I actually want to have meaningful conversations with fellow pilots to help improve to become a better pilot. I will add comments and my perspective for anything I post from here on out. I'm here to learn and stay alive as long as possible, so I can do what I love, fly.

I had thought about not posting my flight today and just not telling anyone that it went poorly. But then I'm not being honest with myself and what am I learning from that (and someone else that may end up in the situation I was in). I'm feeling a bit of humility after today's flight. Thats hard to admit.

I hope you all enjoyed the eclipse this past Monday! Below is an unlisted video from this past Sunday. I have been trying to schedule this flight for a few weeks now. The airport is KDXR in Danbury, CT. I went through my logbook and have an approach here when I was a student pilot from 2003. I was with a CFI at the time, and I vaguely remember this approach into Runway 35. 21 years later I attempted it again solo and had too much energy. Looking back from Sunday, I remember focusing too much on the runway and not monitoring my airspeed. There were no approach aids either. I made the mistake of not adding full flaps (2 of 3 were configured). I also was getting site tracked by the terrain and did not feel comfortable. I thought about going around before the numbers. I was strapped for time as I only had the plane for 2 hours and trying again would have put me delayed on the return. It was a sloppy approach and go around. Yesterday, I texted my CFI and have requested additional short-field training at an actual airport with a short field. Pretending I'm doing short field landings on a larger airport is way different. Only flying to class D airports with large Runways for the past 2 months are nice and forgiving and have made my skills lax. I'm open to constructive criticism.

I'm trying again this Sunday at KDXR, the winds look to be out of the west so they may be using Runway 26. Here is a link to the AFD: https://aeronav.faa.gov/afd/21mar2024/ne_34_21MAR2024.pdf

He's alright. My favorite AK variant is an actual AK47 with a milled receiver, not the standard AKM that is commonly and incorrectly referred to as an "AK47."

Interesting. I watched the video 1x and then it became private. It's no longer available.

Going based off my memory since I can't rewatch the video... Everything looked OK up until about ~4:05 to 4:10 IIRC. Or maybe more accurately what I should say is that the landing could have been successful at that point in my eyes. Maybe even a few seconds longer if energy management was handled differently.

But the biggest thing that caught my eye was your hesitancy to descend (along with pulling power and using flaps). It resulted in what looked kind of like a 2 part flare - leveling out without slowing down before you resume your descent and do another flare (the second one looked pretty high).
In my view -- the big thing is this... you really cannot afford to be hesitant on a short field landing. You're either landing or you're going around. You seemed to be doing a more half-hearted attempt to land but without committing to really pulling power, bleeding off airspeed and letting it settle. That cost you.

On the bright side it was a scenic approach (at least by Illinois standards). And you lived to fly another day.

Thanks for the feedback ArrowFlyer, the reason it went private is I put it to be released via schedule at 6:00pm EST, its available now. My CFI was off today so I had him watch it and he said the same thing. His specific questions were "how much flaps were you using and what was my aiming point." We also decided that I do a real short field landing at a local airport that needs proper energy management so I can get used to committing, like you suggested. I have been flying at all class D 5,000'+ x 100' runways for 3 months.

We picked:
42B
2,120' x 50'
