Your first concert. . .

1977. Leroy Van Dyke, also with Bob Wills Texas Playboys. After Bob died of course.

Me, 1st grade Christmas choral concert.

The Grass Roots, 1969.

Most recent, The Eagles, in July.

The worst, Bob Dylan, 2012. The saving grace was John Mellencamp as the opening act.

Mike Oldfield 1980

Almost as funny as the tour with Rick James as the headliner with Prince as the opening act.
Haha. Bob Seger opened for 'em the night before.

Since the thread is spreading:

Last: Riverboat Gamblers, Zero Boys, Anti-Nowhere League, TSOL @ The Observatory
Best Large Venue: The Who, Hampton Coliseum, 1980
Best Medium Venue: Franz Ferdinand, The Fonda, 2013
Best Small Venue: Riverboat Gamblers, Alex's Bar, 2012
Worst: Dave Matthews Band, Riverport Amphitheater, 2003.
Best Part of the Worst: Bela Fleck and the Flecktones opening.

who says, "WHAT?!"

Johnny Cash in 1975. Great concert. Classic guy.

I've been to only two others since. Leann Rimes, and Sara Evans/Brad Paisley at the state fair. Both were because I was given free tickets. There's no way in hell I'm paying $75-$100+ per ticket for anyone with their clothes still on.

Really, the only people I'd like to see are Billy Joel, James Taylor and Jimmy Buffet. I'm just not into music the way I was in my youth.

Various artists, Max Yasgur's Farm, Bethel NY, 1969.

Queen. At the Oakland Coliseum, sometime in the early 70's. I was a pre-teen, and my little brother was about 9 or 10. My mom dropped us off and then went to visit our sister.

Uh, oh. Some competition for Eric Jensen. (and me and Kayoh, of course.)

The first concert I went to on my own:

1977 KSHE's Valentines Day Massacre. KSHE held this concert held every year w/ three "up and coming bands".

1977 Was Robin Trower, Lake & Prism. I saw Springsteen later in the year.

1978 VDM was Eddie Money, Doucette & Meatloaf.

Best concert (or close to it) was Harry Chapin in 1977.

Ozzy Osbourne - 12/31/1981 - LA Sports Arena. Three months later Randy Rhoads died in a '57 H35 Bonanza :(

Strangest - Iggy Pop in a very small venue.

Favorite: Hall & Oates in Philly a month ago

I remember Queen and the Ozark Mountain Daredevils.

As far as earliest concert -- I really can't remember. I'm sure there were some real classics when I was a kid.

Daddy issues?

Nahh...more like I wanted to be a pilot and wound up driving a taxi instead.

Oh, wait... ;)

He put on a great show.

April Wine, Toto & 38 Special in 1979 was one helluva show too!

Whew. After I posted, I realized that could be borderline offensive. It was really my attempt at dry wit. Sorry if I offended. That wasn't my intent.

1982: Steel Breeze (early MTV one hit wonders) in Petaluma. They were such one hit wonders that they played their one hit (You Don't Want Me Anymore) two times!

I didn't see that in the thread's policies and practices handout... sorry...:dunno:

My contest, my rules.

And my rule makes sense. The point is to see what bands people chose to spend their money on to go see-- in other words, what is their taste in music. With a festival, it's like, "**** it, I don't have to make a decision. Somethin's bound to be good."

Blondie, 1978 in Seattle, KZOK's Rising Star Concert, for all of 1$

Led Zepplin, everyone was complaining about the 4.5 fold rise in ticket price to $9.00

Well... I didn't spend money because we didn't have any when I was a kid, but I went to a lot of concerts in Prospect Park in Brooklyn and Central Park in Manhattan from when I was a kid until when I moved out of The City.

I remember especially enjoying Pete and Arlo the first time, but I don't remember which venue or year it was. I attended quite a few great concerts in the parks over the years.

We do okay up here, though. Proctors in Schenectady gets some great artists in every conceivable genre. There also are plenty of outdoor concerts during the tourist season, most of them free or by voluntary contribution. And then there's Bethel Woods, of course. Journey and the Doobie Brothers will be there in January.

I think it was 1977 when I saw Harry as well. Best story teller ever.

I don't know about that. Dylan is a pretty awesome story teller. The difference being that Harry can actually sing!

(and PPC...no offense taken...I picked up on the underlying smartassedness...I've met you, remember?! ;) )

Oh man...I'll bet.

Nauga,
the passenger

Was close enough to get a high five from Iggy himself, smart enough to duck when he hocked a loogie over the crowd. He is one scary looking dude.

Three of my older brothers saw the Beatles at Busch Stadium in 1966. Story goes that they tried and tried to talk mom into letting me join them. I was 6. She didn't say no, she said hell no!

Apparently they didn't hear anything the Beatles played...far too many young girls screaming to be able hear anything else.

KISS 80's no makeup KISS(boo), Nugent opened

Best opener -

Had a bud in the Navy big into Depeche Mode and they were the headliners.....meh.

The The (Matt Johnson + Johnny Marr and others) opened, it was fabulous. But I've loved Matt Johnson since the Soul Mining days...

The PA systems weren't as capable then. Now they can overpower any screaming girls.

Tim might remember the Ozark Music Festival in Sedalia, MO in 1974. That was a couple years before I moved to the area, so I missed hearing about it.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ozark_Music_Festival
http://www.kansascity.com/entertainment/music-news-reviews/article27672037.html

"The Ozark Music Festival can only be described as a disaster. It became a haven for drug pushers who were attracted from throughout the United States. The scene made the degradation of Sodom and Gomorrah appear mild. Natural and unnatural sex acts became a spectator sport. Frequently, nude women promoted drugs with advertisements on their bodies."

Ozzy in 81 as well, in San Bernardino
