20-30 minutes from my doorway to the hangar at KMPV, depending on road conditions and whether I can take the shortcut.

I lived in Santa Maria for five years and have had several successful businesses there for 31 years.

I moved to Nipomo in 1991 and married a native of Nipomo. I enjoy the rural environment.

I had to look up homie because it is not a term I use and yes, there are many people who have lived their whole lives here and are very much a part of the community and neighborhood.

When I first came here in 1987 and opened a motorcycle shop the Serna family adopted me so I could become a part of the community. Through the years they have joined me on many adventures.

In my opinion the airport is very nice with an 8,004 foot long by 150 foot wide runway 12/30 and a 5,189 foot long by 75 foot wide cross wind runway 2/20.

We have a small on the field museum.

I have a nice T hangar for $219 per month.

The control tower is very helpful when I request training exercises outside the normal operations and they often go out of their way to help my clients learn to fly.

We average about 280 sunny days a year and the July high is around 74 degrees F and he January low is 40 degrees F.

I have never had to defend myself in Santa Maria and generally enjoy the culture here.

I have a good relation with the local police and fire departments and when I declared an emergency I was flooded with visitors at my hangar from the police and fire departments despite the lack of injury or damage.

I have a good relationship with the San Jose, Van Nuys and Riverside FSDOs.

I have been to every state in the union several times and all around California, I like it here best.
 
I worked for a couple years just south of SMX, but I would never keep a plane there, especially since you basically can't carry in CA nowadays (which is an unlawful law per the constitution), pismo or even lompoc, more leaning towards pismo, would be my choice over SMX.

I love CA, the only problem is the government and the Californians.


Looking back think I talked to you on the radio years back, tail number ended in DZ.
 
Is there anything 'wrong' with a person for aspiring to live next to their airplane?
I mean, right beside it in the hangar. On a cot. Under the wing.
Where you could wake up briefly at night, reach out and caress - I mean, touch a strut.
Just wondering. Have heard of this, is all.
Doesn't apply to anyone I know.

From my garage to hangar is 20 minutes. There is an airport that is only 10 minutes away but they do not have fuel or hangars. I opted for the extra 10 minutes for a new hangar and fuel. To me it is well worth the extra drive. The fuel price is not bad either, $3.75.
 
I’m fortunate; 5 decent airports within 45 minutes of the house. The rental market takes me down to 2, though.

Oceano (Pismo?) is often fogged in when Santa Maria (SMX) is and San Luis Obispo (SBP) are clear and does not have a control tower. It is short at 2,325 feet long by 50 feet wide. I feel it would be a poor choice for flight instruction.


Lompoc is has more wind, no cross wind runway, no tower and it has a jump school.


When I had my motorcycle business in Santa Maria I was told by the local police I could get a carry permit.


In my 68 years on this planet I have never encountered a situation that would have come out better if I had a gun.

I don't recall ever talking to you on the radio. I am either 142 MG or 509 QB. I started flying here in 2007.
 
40 minutes via uber, 60 if there's traffic.

20-25 minutes from my house to parking in front of the hangars for the club planes.
 
Thanks all. Looks like my drive is one of the longest ones. The gift that keeps giving when living in the sticks. It's a drive to anywhere

I live about 10 mins from KLWC but my club is at KIXD about 50 mins away. KLWC has rentals but they are not always available and the club is more economical.

There's also no Jet-A there.

But IXD and OJC are both closer to my house as well by a significant amount, and the Garretts would be normal noise at those airports.
 
I'm 5 minutes from 5W5 but I won't fly out of there, the runway is old asphalt and gets 6" narrower every year. It's about 40 minutes to KTTA. Would love to be closer, but I also don't want to live all the way in the boonies, as opposed to only halfway there. 45 minutes to RDU.
 
I can walk down the hill in the back yard and be there in less than 20 seconds, but I don’t have an airplane there. Yet. I know something will come along for me some day... in the meantime I bum rides with friends.
