Anybody here know if I can enable an XM Weather subscription on a G1000 for a one-month term? If the FBO doesn't have an XM subscription enabled, I'd like the ability to subscribe adhoc, for occasional long trips (like during my July Fort Worth-Oshkosh-Denver-Fort Worth trip).

An alternative would be to rent a portable Garmin GPS from Air Power (http://www.airpowerinc.com/promo3.htm), and then activating the subscription. I confirmed with them that it is NOT activated, but can be by the 'renter'.

Just got off the phone with them. Sharing findings, for others/future: They WILL do month-to-month, I CAN activate the subscription for a G1000 system in a plane I don't own, and since I'm a current Sirius/XM subscriber in my truck, they'll WAIVE the $75.00 activation fee.

All set! I'll go up to the airport a week before departure and get it working, just to ensure it is (and to provide debug time with them if needed).

Thanks, Troy!

What info do they need from the G1000 to set it up?

I think all you would need is the ID# for the G-1000 and they can activate it.

Correct. Go to the AUX - 5 page (or whichever AUX page has "XM INFORMATION" on your revision), and the top of the page lists two ids... "DATA RADIO ID" and "AUDIO RADIO ID". Call 1-800-985-9200 with those two numbers and a credit card. ;)

I think you need to be at the aircraft when you do it, or need to tell them when you will be at the aircraft, at a time you can power up the avionics with the airplane having visibility to the satellites. At least with my other vehicles it's been that way--they send an activation signal but only broadcast it "now" or during a 1 hour window (if I recall the time period correctly) you specify for a later time. If you miss that window, call them back and they'll re-send.

So, can you activate the audio separately? Some places activate the data, but sometimes on long XCs, I'd like to activate the audio...maybe even just transfer over my audio from one radio to another...hmmm.

Absolutely! You can get just XM/Sirius RADIO without the XM Weather / Data package.

But is there an issue with two separate subscriptions, one from the plane owner for data, one from me for music et al
