Xanax and other anxiety meds

What is your realistic goal for flying? Pure recreational (like the way some folks own a boat or Harley), travel to see the regional area and family, travel for business, or an eventual desire to be a pilot as a career?


And I have big agreement with what Bruce said just above about other organizations saying "it's a sure thing" with regard to your situation. I'm no doctor or AME, but in 3 years of learning about the FAA medical process, the only sure thing is the work you yourself put in with the guidance/mentoring of the right AME to "Own Your Medical." And I don't know the LeftSeat folks well enough to trust them. One foul up and your denied forever and LSA is no longer available.

My suggestion is to contact Bruce off forum and have a honest conversation with him.

i am not a pilot but I’m a f/a and found myself here trying to search online for what I’m allowed to fly with. Seriously and honestly, I think our careers of irregular sleep patterns and possibly the effects of flying have similar impacts on us. I personally have had a prescription for Xanax in the past. It’s amazing and I can take it only when I really need it. 0.25mg is plenty for me on a bad day. And only needing one per day, not 3x a day. However, I can’t take it while flying. But talking with my doctor (now 7 years later and being off Xanax the past 3 years) about my irritability and difficulty focusing, she said it’s likely my anxiety. I asked if I have ADD and if adderall could help. She said possibly AND it’s nondrowsy. So why can’t a pilot take a small dose of adderall for anxiety and irritability without the diagnosis of attention deficit and it also be a substitute for Xanax. Just a thought.

Well to start adderall is not indicated for anxiety. Secondly adderall is a stimulant and will make anxiety worse. Third it’s quite clearly documented that it is a no fly med!!
You wouldn’t use coccaine for a panic attack or nervousness would you?? Adderall will only confound problems. Wild that your dr suggested it!?
 
Question for Bruce: met with an old friend yesterday that started training about a year and a half ago for his PPL. He was super excited and fast tracking it. When it was time for the student medical, he was truthful and said he'd taken Xanax in the past. Of course he got rejection. Deflated, now he's given up on it and thinks it's not something he can achieve. He's the perfect PPL candidate and has the skills and means to stay in aviation, so I thought I'd ask you here what can be done to get it reversed? I'd like to help him get his PPL if I can.
 
I'll assume you are male - get more pu*sy and drink more scotch. Your problems are solved.
 
He needs his PCP to refer him to an "in system psychiatrist" for an expert's take on WTH is going on. PCP with psych meds.....who knows what's actually going on.....?" PCPs are very good a recognizing symptoms. But they are not good a separating out what the Heck is actually going on.....
 
I have been taking kloKlono for over twenty years. Does this mean I can never get a private pilot license?
