for a while, dang it.

Flight training has stretched out longer than I expected that it would - and now a family medical situation (my mom's cancer came back, d*mn it) and a $20/hr increase for fuel surcharge has conspired to stop the process for a while. Hopefully, not long.

I'm frustrated.

Put this on the red board, but wanted to share with y'all, too. This is such a great place...

awwww, sorry to hear about your Mom, I hope she will be ok.

keep reading and staying tuned in. your time will come around again. I am the queen of many delays!

Sorry to hear about your mom. Lost mine to cancer after 15 years of keeping it at bay. It's never easy to deal with to see it happen to one so close.

Stay involved. Local EAA chapter. Angel Flight ground support. Airport Open House events. Flight Sim, even. You never know what opportunity may present itself.

Tom, I'm really sorry to hear about your mother, that's awful.

Last year around this time I quit flying when I had 23 hours too, after a friend died by spinning his plane in. I took 2 and a half months off, and found I couldn't stop thinking about flying. It's just in my blood I guess. I started back up again and changed airports and schools, which made a big difference.
Try not to think about airplanes over your break. If you can manage that, you made the right decision.

Best of luck, and I'm sorry to hear about your mother.

rob

Enjoy every flight like it's your last.

Tom,

Sorry to hear about your mother. It is survivable.

I understand the issues dealing with elderly parents and medical issues. Especially right now.

It took me 10+ years to do my PP from first flight to last. Two job changes, three city moves, a divorce, and my career got in the way.... there is hope...

Tom, I am so sorry. You have my condolences. Tonight my prayers will include your mother for a swift recovery. I really hope that all works for the best for you.

Thanks, y'all, for the support. I'm always gratified to see how the aviation community is willing to open up to support folks during hard times. I'm planning to get back to it, as soon as things settle down. In the meantime, I'll schedule some dual every now and again, and get that pesky written out of the way. ;)

Thanks, again, folks.

I'm sorry to hear about your mother, Tom. This has to take priority, of course. You will get back into it, don't worry. Thinking about the written sounds like a good idea.

Sorry about the pause.

Your mom's cancer too. Here is some good karma for you, in December my mom's cancer came back and on Thursday we got word form the ocologist that it was responded to chemo and is no longer cancer, she started with stage 3. She will do one more round of of maintenance chemo and a little specific radiation and then just go to 6 month follow ups. So keep your hopes up there are good chances of recovery.

Tom,

I know you will get back into aviation when this all blows over. In the mean time know Agatha and I have you in our thoughts and hope for the best for your mom.

Tom, so sorry to hear about this, I know how it goes. Please do stay here and say hello now and again. And, if you can find your way to Chattanooga, you have a seat in the Skylane for Gastons.

Tom, so sorry to hear about your mother. We'll keep her and you in our thoughts and prayers. In the meantime, do what the folks here have suggested---keep reading, flying the flight sim, hanging out at the airport, and grab any and all right seats offered (you've had a bunch already!!). And I hope you'll stay around the boards.

Best wishes--

You'll get through it, you're not allowed to give up (and neither is your mom for that matter). Best wishes for your mother's quick recovery.

X2. Well said William.

Some GOOD news - while the cancer has, indeed, recurred, what they thought were metastases on her ribs may be only artifact from the trauma of this last (or some other) fall. They don't know for sure, but that's what he thinks, right now - so at least that's concrete reason for hope!! She'll still have the radiation to deal with, and the removal of the new lesion, but this is a much improved situation to have to deal with, I'm happy to say!

I'm also happy to say that you people are the best - the support here and on the red board has been wonderful. I truly appreciate everything y'all have said. Y'all are great.

So sorry about your mom, Tom, but it sounds like there's been a little bit of good news. Only you know what works for you, but if you can, do try to stay connected with the flying. Someday you'll get there!

Make sure they get a PET scan and they will be able to tell for sure. But that is good news!!

Haven't really known what to say. Sounds to me like you have more important things to deal with than flying, you've got to have your priorities. My family's prayers are with yours.

As for PPL, you'll get it sooner or later. Took me 4 1/2 years, so I figure patience is a virtue :)

Sorry to hear about your troubles. You don't have to stop flying. Go hang out at the airport and bum right seat time. Lots of pilots like the company and will let you do some of the flying. Beats sitting at home making airplane noises.
