Friends who’ve flown different warbirds say the Grummans are comparatively easier or better to fly than some other fighters, and with the folding wings it’ll fit in our hangar easily, and won’t run out of pavement on our runway.

I've heard similar things about the 190, which is why it's my top pick.

Hey, if we're dreaming, put me down for an F7F Tigercat. Bearcats are amazing, but whats better than an R2800? I dunno...maybe TWO?

And then I woke up and realized the 100LL bills would be more than my mortgage and the oil burns faster than my 172 burns mogas...

Reconsidering, I’ll take a Mosquito. TWO Merlin’s and a seat for my Girlfriend.
I agree, I have to admit it is possible the only thing that sounds better than Merlin is two Merlins with the props in sync.

None of the above. I couldn't afford to operate any of them! I'd take a reconnaissance aircraft like an L19 Bird Dog that I could actually use.

I have been blessed with GIB (guy in back) time in P-51, T-28, T-6, B-25, HU-16, C-45. Im broke but rich simultaneously!

Back in the 1990s my office was under the final approch to one of the runways at the local airport. One afternoon there was a familiar sound (that of a Merlin Engine - I said to
my co-workers), But wait! - that sounded like TWO Merlin Engines!. I had to go look. It was an HE-111 - Postwar, Spanish - built, and sporting two Merlins (because by then the
German engines were no longer available). It had, in fact, been the personal aircraft of Gen. Francisco Franco. Unfortunately, that plane later crashed.

I think it was back about 1999 or so that airplane and a B-24 visited the Boise airport and for a few dollars we could tour through both airplanes. Was interesting the see the differences in the two planes, although I think a B-25 is probably a closer match to the HE-111. The funny part was while we were touring these two museum piece airplanes across the airport at the the NIFC (National Interagency Fire Center) They were loading up a PB4Y (Navy version of B-24) with Borate and bombing fires with it.
