now my clock is on the left side of the screen instead of centered.

Why?

My left hand hides it much of the time.

Why?

A centered clock is far more balanced and intuitive.

Why?

I can't find a way to move it back.

Why?

And, as an aside, since I upgraded to 12.xxx, I can no longer highlight text in PoA response boxes and drag my finger to control exactly what text to highlight. It just immediately jumps to highlight all text below where I initially dropped the cursor with my finger.

Why?

WTF Apple? New releases are supposed to go forwards, not backwards.

The 12.xxx version also went backwards when it comes to adding photos to text messaging...have you tried doing it yet? Not intuitive now, and requires extra steps if you are like me and you take your photo before creating a text message (although it may be slightly easier now if you take the photo during/after writing text)

My guess would be either...

1) To make the interface consistent with iPhones with a notch, or,

2) To prepare the iPad interface for a notch.

As to the text selection gremlin, its very annoying. I reported it to Apple quite some time ago. Hard to imagine they’re not aware of the problem.

The photo roll icon moved to the upper left. Its still as easy to use as ever.

You guys need to spend more time finding things that make you happy instead of sharing every little thing that irritates you. Get a life!

Having an android phone makes me VERY happy!!

The ONLY reason I own a POS Apple product is ForeFlight. And I loathe it with every breath.

What if it makes me happy to be a grumpy old man?

1) Makes me happy: Typing this on a 5-year-old iPad Mini 2 that’s been bulletproof.

2) Makes me happier: That text selection trick. Just used it and it works! Thanks! Pretty sure I knew about it, but must have forgotten.

I really liked the change on my mini, it shows the date along with the time. Really handy, wish they’d do that on the phone but I guess there’s not enough room.

Took me a few to figure that one out but now that I know, no big deal. Just click the 'Photos' icon under where you type your message.

You talking about the home screen or when the phone is open?

Why?

Something to do with the newer devices having a notch in the center, maybe?

My left hand hides it much of the time.

Why?

1) You're holding it wrong.
2) Maybe you have fat hands instead of fat fingers?

A centered clock is far more balanced and intuitive.

Why?

I have no idea why you find a centered clock more intuitive. "Oh, look, the clock's on the left now. I guess I'll look there first from now on." This is not difficult.

I can't find a way to move it back.

Why?

Because there is none.

What app are you using?

I hated that at first, until I realized that they just changed how it works slightly. The camera icon now literally means camera, and there is a separate Photos icon to get to the pics you've already taken. It's the "rainbow flower" one right under the camera icon. If you have nothing there, hit the Apps icon to the right of the camera.

Apple keeps reinventing the effin wheel and it does irritate me. Usually none of their releases do anything but eff up my devices. My iPad 9.7 is on 12 but I left my Air 2 on 10 and it has worked much better than the new iPad.

I don’t get WTF they are trying to do. People get comfortable with a system and they go and friggin change it. It’s like a dart board that is constantly moving.

Perspective, I guess. My mini 2 is a far better machine with iOS 12. So is my iPad Pro and my iPhone 7+. That the functions morph is the evolution of tech, and the rate of tech evolution is incredible. The old saying "lead, follow, or get out of the way" has never been more applicable.

Lookey there, I edited the post with a new technique using my mini 2 in a way not formerly available. The old machine has new utility. Boom.

I think it’s the millennial thinking verses old fart thinking. New and different must be better, right? Doesn’t matter if it actually is or not.

You (we) are not the demographic they are targeting anymore.

iPhones with a notch

Is this the one with a notch?

Try Garmin Pilot. :)

Both valid points, except in my case I fly Part 135 on the side, and our operation is only approved to use ForeFlight and Ipads for EFBs. I don't think the FAA has been too big on Android equipment, as there are way too many variables in equipment and operating software.

...another reason why I don't upgrade until I HAVE to.

The fact they don't allow you to go back a version continues to irk me. They truly think they know what's best and it's their way.

iOS only in your life because of FF? Wow. Plenty of Android options that work well.

BTW...

Another similar issue.

In my Google email app, when responding to all, if I want to selectively delete text in the string of email, I cannot select more than what is showing on the screen. When the cursor gets to the bottom of the screen it just starts "stuttering" there and won't go down any farther. So,it takes numerous "select and scrolls" to delete three or four emails in a chain.

"Select all" still works fine, but not if I want to delete with a scalpel.

I'm definitely not an IT person, and maybe I'm missing something but, if not, I just don't know how a company takes something that was working just fine and f***s it up so badly.

Microsoft is WAY worse at that than Apple. At least with Apple they usually only change things for a reason. That reason isn't always immediately obvious, but I usually figure it out eventually.

I'm starting to wonder if it's more of a XenForo thing than an Apple thing because it seems like this site is 75% of my issues with iOS 12.xxxxx

Does your apple device have 3D Touch? If so, put the cursor wherever you want to start selecting text. Hard press on the keyboard to get it into “selection mode” (all the keys go blank and the cursor should stop blinking.) Then, without removing your thumb from the screen, hard press again on the blank keyboard, and then you should be able to drag a selection box over whatever words you want.

If you don’t have 3D Touch, press and hold on the space bar to enter selection mode, the lets will go blank. Slide the cursor where you want it, then without removing your thumb, tap anywhere on the blank keyboard with another finger and you should be able to drag a selection box wherever you want.

Bingo! That works! Thank you. The link that Stewartb provided didn't include that second bit of info which is key to "selecting" instead of just "placing."

Apple!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Sorry. Is there anything I can do to help?

I hear ya. I have an iPhone simply because my employer supplies and pays for it, and does not permit anything other than IOS devices since the long overdue demise of the Blackberry.

I don't know about Apple as the newest Apple computer I have was made about 25 years ago, but MS drives me nuts with some of the changes they put in. You've learned MS Office and then they change it so you can't find things that you've known how to do for years. There's a reason civilians don't have access to nuclear weapons, and that's to keep Redmond, WA from glowing in the dark.

Yea... When I went to Win 10, I just about had a heart attack... I still hate it.

That’s right old man get off my lawn!
