I so glad to hear someone else incorporate chachbag to their vernacular! It's an everyday word for me.
 
I know he got blasted on here, but Kevin Lacey from airplane repo has a channel that is a guilty pleasure of mine. He has some videos of him working on engines that I thought were interesting.

BTW love SteveO !!! Geesh, bahamas one day and the TBM the next. Flightchops Steve is a long time favorite of mine too, but I've gotten less interested in his videos over the past many months. Is it just me or does there seem to be less and less flying and more documentary material? I probably need to catch up on some of his vids.

Totally agree. This is really awesome content that even 5 years ago wasn't available or you had to pay big $$ from some dude doing a DVD flying course. I've picked up tips from all of them. It's a lot of good for a little bit of bad. When I can't fly, I'll watch the YouTube vids just to keep my flying brain engaged.

You're right about FlightChops tho. He's focusing more on niche aviation topics. I have very little interest in warbirds but I found his series on mountain flying to be very fascinating including the non-flying briefings. Early on, he did a lot more analysis of his own flying skills and thus were more useful as an aide. Now it's well produced GA infotainment and I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

Yup me too! Even in a C152. And for the reason Bonchie mentions, I fly different planes including retracts.

This Steveo deal, what's the link or website? Sounds interesting if y'all like it so much. I know Timbeck probably has a man crush on him though...;)
 
Firstly, I tried to re-find this thread by searching "chachbag" but it didn't work for some reason.

Secondly, a few days ago MrCaptainAviation10101010101Man uploaded a short film about a flight from Oregon to Texas. I start watching, and it is different from his usual fare. Really well shot and edited so far, for a YouTube aviation video. I'm enjoying for the first few minutes, and theeeeeeeeeeeeen the voiceover starts... *slaps forehead*. Come on, man, you had a good thing going for a while, I was cheering for you! You were telling a story through some interviewing and establishing shots and good editing. No need for the croaky-voiced voiceover!

More power to this guy, I can't hate on anyone for flying as much as possible and following their dreams. But...those voiceovers. I can't even put my finger on it, the voice isn't the worst thing. It's the...cockiness? Knowitallness? Maybe? Maybe he is defensive because he's been in the ****holecessspit of YouTube comments for a few years (and he goes toe to toe with them in the comments), and that comes out as overcompensation. Or maybe the faux philosophizing/poeticizing is the annoying part? "The first long flight is a time to get acquainted with this riveted pile of metal"? Ugh.

But hey, it's free, and AIRPLANES, so I'll keep watching.

Your description made me go watch. I lost it at "As pilots we have to learn about this airplane's quirks, and we have to determine if any of this airplane's quirks will turn into a deadly emergency down the road."

ROFLMAO. Overly dramatic much?

I haven't watched much of his stuff, but that was laugh-out-loud stupid.

Did he forget and leave the flaps partially down in cruise? Or does the Traumahawk always look like the flap and aileron are split in level flight?

Yay airplane videos. It's still better than pay TV.

If you're not going to pay for the video directly, you have to watch commercials. Be they from You Tube or embedded in the video itself during production, that is how you're paying for them. Nothing in life is free. That's the problem with the world today. Everybody thinks they should get stuff for free.

I don't want to see any more commercials than the next guy, nor do I want to spend 1 minute of my life listening to a voice-over about sponsors. But I like the videos, and I want the guy to be able to continue making them, so I put up with the minor annoyances. After all, it's 1/15th of the overall video. I can give him that.

What he said!!!! I contribute to a number of video channels and podcasts using Patreon. Because I want them to continue. Geeze whiz, some of you guys seem to think that content creators should work for you for free.

If you don't like the show, don't listen to it!!

And of course there is NOTHING wrong with a private pilot writing a book or making a video about his flying activities. That's not 'holding out'!
 
Yeah it's overly dramatic, but I'll take that over the cr@p on TV these days (reference reality TV thread). At least we know these guys are really doing it and it's not FAKE BS. :)
 
Haha I have to admit the voice overs by Mr. Aviation can be pretty damn corny...but other than I think they are good videos.
