Looking for additions to my running/workout music playlist. I have 295 songs in my playlist but always looking for more. The only criteria is that it's high energy. I lean towards the cassette era of classic rock (and older) but also have artists like:

George Clinton
Bob Marley
Robert Randolph
Harry Connick Jr.
The Carolina Chocolate Drops
Spyro Gyra
Jeff Lorber
Herbie Hankock
David Sanborn
Bruce Cockburn
Big Smith
The Indigo Girls
Keller and the Keels
Old Dominion (not a big fan of country but one high energy song at a time ain't bad!)

So, come on. Whatcha got?

If I'm running someone is behind me with a knife ... :happydance:

Seriously, I like a lot of those musicians and groups. But not for workout purposes.

For working out?

Lesseee.... from the recently played list from the past couple weeks at the gym....

Metallica
Offspring
Lagwagon
Three 6 Mafia
NOFX
Jay-Z
Sum 41
Less Than Jake
Sepultura
Redman
Vandals
Ween
DMX
Wu-Tang
DRI
Nas
Beastie Boys
Pennywise
Helmet
Moe.
Black Label Society
Iron Maiden
Megadeth
EPMD
Anthrax
Dropkick Murphys
Umphrey's McGee

In keeping with the style of music you listed:
Taj Mahal
Tower of Power
Average White Band
KC and the Sunshine Band

I lean towards more hard rock stuff, so my faves include more 70s classic rock with the right tempo for running footfalls. As Sac Arrow said, your listed groups are good stuff, but too mellow to drive me in an aerobic workout.

And, of course, my favorite weight-loss song ever: "I'm Losin' You," by Rod Stewart.

@ateamer dang yeah man... some good ones in there. Tomorrow at the gym time to revisit some old friends....

SOD, Slayer.... that takes me back.

Throw in some Three six Mafia maybe some old school Ice-T and there you go....

Motorhead
Queens of the Stone age
Kongos
Nirvana
Royal Blood
Foo Fighters

Go West
Chaka Khan
Westend Boys
The B-52's
Kajagoogoo
Soundgarden
Pantera
Primus (sucks)
Live
Def Leppard
Huey Lewis and the News
Go go's
38 Special
Ted Nugent
Billy Squire
Any Dubstep
Daft Punk

Most artists have a song or two that's high energy enough for me to workout to regardless of how mellow their typical music is.

i.e.

Keller and the Keels - Hepped up on Goof Balls

Harry Connick, Jr who is typically mellow Sanatra style - Smile

Bruce Cockburn - Sunwheel Dance

One I forgot and that is a lot of fun to work out to. (And was the "procession of the bride" as my lovely lady walked up the aisle...not kidding)

My workout playlist is a lot of Rage Against the Machine and Avenged Sevenfold. Either of these songs starts playing and I'm running through brick walls and throwing weights across the room.

I love some of those artists you posted, but I can't imagine working out listening to such mellow songs.

Edited to add:

This song is great for when I have to do slower tempo stuff.

My 'workout' music (I can hear you laughing) parallels what I've posted in this thread, but also changes frequently.

Currently:
Riverboat Gamblers
Jawbreaker
Pinhead Gunpowder
Direct Hit!
Fabulous Disaster
The Lillingtons
NOFX
Bad Cop Bad Cop
Fleshies
Dead to Me
Rocket from the Crypt
Toys that Kill

Nauga,
who is slower than his tempo

Paul Simon
James Taylor
Jim Croce
Carly Simon
John Denver
Gordon Lightfoot

All the respect in the world for 70s and 80s classic rock - that's what I'm usually streaming in the car. For workout purposes, I'd suggest maybe dipping a toe in EDM since the BPMs are well north of 120 for the most part. Try David Guetta (anything from his Nothing But The Beat Albums (both of them)), Nicky Romero, Martin Garrix, Zedd and the late/great Avicii.

A good friend who is a hard core runner really likes Girl Talk - high energy DJ who mixes together ~20 second samples of mainly hip hop tracks. Admittedly great for running, but definitely a hard PG-13 and NSFW. I don't want to link it here lest anyone accidentally play it in an inappropriate setting, but if you go to YouTube and search "Girl Talk" the full Feed the Animals album should come up first.

Some of my favorite workout or bicycling playlists:
Amyl & the Sniffers
The Cramps
Viagra Boys
High on Fire
Blood on the Saddle
Slayer
Superchunk
Blue Cheer
Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush
Sleaford Mods
Motörhead
The Pogues
AC/DC (Bon Scott era only!)

Definitely five finger death punch. If you want to start out with FFDP light, Start with their renditions of bad company and house of the rising sun, then move into some of their original stuff

Techno dub mix.

SiriusXM has additional web streamed channels and I often use the BPM work out one. It repeats a bit too much for me but crap does time fly by with that kinda music.

Honestly, I only choose my own music when I'm doing endurance riding on my bike. Which I haven't done for a couple years. These days, I just listen to the music at the gym, and watch the true crime TV stations in front of me.

I watched this horrid zombie British eat flesh movie that I sort of kind of enjoyed even though it isn't normally my thing, but they had this techno beat cardio workout drum mix that was totally the bomb playing, and even though they were eating human flesh, I was so totally rocking out on it.

That probably sounded really bad.

No worse than the polka music.

That is pretty bad. I've done two Oktoberfests in Germany when I was stationed there, and being drunk didn't improve it.

Rodrigo y Gabrielle
EARLY Allmans (before the loss of Duane)
Buckethead

Buckethead

Glad there's more than one of us! Buckethead is amazing (and eclectic). All instrumental guitar. Everything from hard rock and metal to techno and soothing and acoustic.

Some of my favorites:
Florrmat :
Project Little Man:
Ourselves:

There are literally hundreds of albums and numerous compilations as well. I don't know how one artist comes up with so much (and sustains the energy for the length of these tracks).

Enya...and I crank it loud!

Amazingly prolific

I do like Jet. I was going to post this one in the other music thread but it fits here too. They love it in Temescal when you roll by in the Camry blasting this. :D

Nauga,
close to the hive

Queen's "Highlander" sound track is pretty good.

Here's one of my favorites, especially for those who like bagpipes. If you're exercising in a public gym, extra credit if you sing along with the chorus.

Close your mind to stress and pain,
Fight till You're No Longer Sane
Let not a one damn cur pass by,
How Many of Them Can We Make Die!
