Hey, the intern had to do something while waiting around to bum a flight.
That regional database option will be nice for those of us stuck on 3.0 or less download speeds who want a quick update for a local flight. Just hope their regional borders match mine.

I’m still hoping for full iPad-style interface and features on the iPhone.

WingX announced version 9 in mid 2017, why 18 months to get it done? We shall see.
Hope it’s still free for CFIs.

Having been called the resident Foreflight hater, I do not agree WingX is better quality, but in price / functionality comparison it is a far better value.

Aviation apps seem like a religion almost, kind of in the same way that low wings are superior.
I suspect it will be. Free for CFIs is primarily a marketing thing. The expectation is that the student will follow the instructor's recommendation. Whether that expectation bears out is another question.
Me, I'm hoping for a "real" WingX for Android, but I've been hoping for that for a long, long time.
I’m an iPhone user and get the full version. Do they give you a watered down version on Android?
"Watered down" is a complement. Crippleware is closer. Maybe 50% of the functionality.

I use WingX because it is free. If it weren’t, I would use SkyCharts. I recommend the private students use WingX at 99 cents. Of course there are too many students that just gotta buy premium stuff
They buy what others buy, what gets talked about and used the most, and what seems cool. If they are learning in FlightStream or GTX equipped aircraft, that's a factor which also pushes certain choices.
I'd guess very few pilots who began using an EFB less than 3-4 years ago are using WingX. Probably many more gravitating to FlyQ as the main non-ForeFlight choice if they are sticking with iOS rather than Android.
I didn't even know SkyCharts was still out there. I had a subscription to them when I bought my iPad Gen 1.

Yes, they are still running. Other than the downloads being snail paced, I like just a simple chart app.

I used WingX for 4 years. I switched to it from ForeFlight when WingX had split screen and nobody else did. Now I've switched back because the club I'm in has 1) Bluetooth Garmin traffic in all planes that only works on Garmin Pilot or ForeFlight and 2) all the checklists on ForeFlight. Hey, there are dozens of us using Garmin Pilot... Mostly, for me, so I have substantially the same app on iOS and Android to reduce my failure surface with an iPad and a cheap android tablet.
My main non-ForeFlight app is iFlyGPS for the same reason.

One reason why I have a Lynx 9000, so I can use the apps I want instead of the apps Garmin allows.

Stratus 3 now supported, traffic numerical presentation seems better (couch flying since I am in annual) ymmv in the air

Care to share an image of traffic, don’t have a receiver at the moment
arrrggghhhh! haven’t needed to download the database before. What’ strange, is that obstacles, airspace, etc are visible, but not terrain and VfR chart.

What is safe mode?
Yeah. It's asking you which database date you want to download. Just pick the latest one.

It's under your apple device settings > WingX > Safe Mode
It is meant to allow you to start WingX if you are having any issues, probably with default settings

Probably just need to download the latest charts.
Also selecting the region was counter intuitive to me, it defaults to all regions downloaded which probably makes sense. But I selected my region and downloaded all the regions except mine.
