I have a 1969 Cherokee 140 (PA-28-140) and would like to add wing tip strobes. At night I have the nav lights on and leave the landing light on for better visibility to other aircraft. Would really like wing tip strobes to enhance being seen. Are there any bolt on strobes that do not require running new wires through the wings and adding another switch to the dashboard? Thanks

No. You'll have to run a new wire for sure and you will have to add a new switch unless you repurpose an old switch.

Get a set of Aero LEDS led nav and strobe light combo that replaces your wingtip nav lights. Super Bright nav and strobe lights that only load the system 5amps. You do have to run a couple of wires and a switch but that is not much work.
 
Yes Uavionix ADS-B has strobes, and they are in the process of making a strobe for the other wing. Kill 2 birds 1 stone.

Thanks for the suggestions and the welcomes. The Cherokee is VFR only and I have not addresses ADS-B out yet so the bolt on Uavionix is a viable option. Does the strobe on the Uavionix unit also require running another wire and added switch? Was hoping I could avoid running another wire and switch and having the strobes on the same wire and switch as the nav lights. Maybe not practical with neon strobes but LED strobes. Thanks again

I'm not sure how legal it would be, but in theory you could wire the nav and strobe to the same wire.

The uAvionix uses the original Nav wire. You can either run a separate wire or connect them both to the nav wire. The only downside is your strobes will always be on, as your nav lights will need to always be on in order for ADSB to work. There is an app that goes along with it and you can control the lights from there if you want. As of now, only the red light is approved, but the green companion is releasing "soon".

In theory you could turn off the lights when you're not in a rules area. That's super deluxe anonymous mode. ;)

But then you have neither nav lights, strobes, nor ADSB. Wait a minute.. I see what you did there...

But not legally. 91.225(f) requires that if you have ADSB, it is operating at all times.

I didn't know that bit. But it does explain why the OSH arrival NOTAM says if you ARE ADS-B you keep your transponder on ALT, otherwise Standby.

Yes.............You can turn they strobes or nav lights on or off, independently, with the app.
