Why every city needs a proper IT guy.

I'd have immediately called someone in the city to go down to his office and explain it in person, making sure to laugh at him repeatedly.

He should have called the media.

At the time, the geeks in the Slashdot crowed and other sites took action. There were phone calls and web sites and I'm sure his whole town knows what a tool he is. If any of them get it.

As I recall, he still insists his ignorant take is correct.

Taylor said that he also did not regret threatening Hughes with FBI action, since he believes that was what prompted Hughes to start treating him seriously.

“After that, he called me Mr. Taylor,” he said, “And he got me the information I needed.”

That right there is just hard to believe. These are the people running our local governments. Save us from ourselves.

The city manager obviously either too stupid to comprehend that Hughes owed him nothing and provided assistance that the manager neither deserved nor appreciated, or he's just an A-hole who believes that badgering an innocent bystander is a good way to get help. Given my experiences with many city managers (there are good ones and bad ones but the latter have a majority IME) I suspect the truth is closer to choice #2.

Best way to handle it would have been to just sit back and watch the idiot make an ass of himself...sit back, and watch the show.

But calling him out on being a moron must've felt good.
