I know @Matthew is not far away.... who else is in the area?

I'll be out there Dec. 18 to Dec 23 ... Be nice to link up for a beverage, dinner, and hangar flying session.
 
That would be up to you. You want to drive or fly to MHK to visit Mike? LOL
 
What will the weather be like? Should I pack my lounge on the beech attire? Or survive a raging blizzard wear?
 
My oldest son was stationed at Ft. Reilly and in fact just left. We were there last Christmas and yes, it was cold as hell with ice everywhere. Good luck. BTW, Manhattan has really grown over the last 4 years we’ve been going there. New restaurants, movie theater where you can buy drinks and food - not a bad little burg anymore for being in NoDamnWhere Kansas.
 
I’ll be around the beginning of that week anyway. You going to be at GATTS?

Rats. I'll be off for 6 weeks but having cataract surgery on the 19th.

Four of my brothers, and my sister all graduated from Kansas State. One of my brothers said that Manhattan had more bars than any other college town, but we were all so poor we couldn't afford to get drunk.
 
I'm in Lawrence just about on hour East. But, we Jayhawkers don't cotton to Manahattan...
 
I flew into MHK a long ago, just to get an easy XC and to get out of town. Stopped at the front desk to get a crew car and grab a bite to eat. I ended up with a Hyundai that looked like it had been through the mother of all hail-storms. The windows weren't broken, but the entire rest of the body was caved in heavily. Every square inch was damaged. I was still relatively fresh as a PP, and when I was leaving ground asked if I wanted to do an intersection departure. I hadn't planned on it, so I didn't have the rwy remaining numbers handy. I said, no thanks, I'll take full length. And then I started to taxi, and taxi, and taxi, and eventually I got all the way to the end of that 7000' rwy. I made a note to myself, "Self, don't do that again."
 
I am thinking maybe Matt,

I will likely be going to MHK a lot more come next Fall.

The Wildcats' feelings about the Jayhawks is mutual. My oldest brother used to work at K-Who, but then he got a new job at the University of Nebraska. The N of the NU on the football helmets stands for knowledge.:goofy:

Your previous prediction did not go unnoticed. It was however a Skyhawk and round-trip, with night currency.. Still. You called it.
 
Yeah, 2.5 RT was a lot easier on this old bag of bones than 2.5 each way.

And it was nice of that RJ to wait for us on that long, slow, final.

@AggieMike88 is going to be fine. He's got a good attitude toward instruction and professionalism.

I started the flight looking like this:

I climbed up on the 172 strut to check the fuel level and tore a hole in the crotch of my jeans. I didn't realize it was THAT bad until we got to MHK and I felt a draft. So, no manspreading for me for the rest of the night. Then Mike, Sam, and I got something to eat at a place that only had high tops so I had to keep my jacket on my lap. I was wearing clean underwear, even after my landing, but I didn't want to make anyone swoon. Then on the trip home the batteries in my headlight failed and the clip on my clipboard broke and I had crap all over the place. And when I told my wife about it all she laughed at me.

Good times.
