More than $400,000 worth of cocaine was discovered hidden in the nose of an American Airlines plane on Sunday.

The flight from Bogotá, Colombia, arrived in Miami on Sunday and the airliner was sent to American's maintenance center at Tulsa International Airport.

A mechanic working on the nose gear called authorities after noticing what appeared to be a bricklike object, said Justin Green, spokesman for the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office.

it was $500,000 worth of cocaine until the monkey had his way with it on the flight to miami.

With this additional income for American Airlines I would think they could lower prices and get the majority of passengers.....;)

Hopefully we can watch season 3 of Narcos and see how this happened!

How it happened? Shoot, the way it's been happening forever. Inside connection at AAL maintenance at Tulsa airport. Not the first time.

Is it just me, or does it seem like these major drug busts (at least the ones that make the headline news) all seem to happen to AA?

This is not the first time a big drug bust has involved AA.

Am I the only one to notice that their "value" is a bit low? By my estimates, that blow should be worth much more. If it is cut then you can double that amount again. I would have no problem estimating the real cost to be closer to 3 million.

And they wondered why the radar was showing snow while flying so close to the equator.

FO: "Hey four stripe, why does the nose feel so much heavier?"

Cap'n: Ugh...I don't know

Somebody is going to have some very mean people searching for him.

Must be using wholesale prices instead of retail.

Aren't they the dominant US carrier to Latin America? Scooped up all of Braniff and Pan Am's routes.

Would it be acceptable to write that off as a lost asset for taxes? Asking for a friend...

Seems like it wouldn't be too hard to figure out who the "retriever" was going to be on the AA side ... also, the guy that placed it shouldn't be too hard to track down. Employees on departure end that worked that plane prior to departure or had access if it was an overnight.

You would think so but we will find out. I wonder how much is being paid to the responsible parties placing and removing the "cargo"? I wonder how widespread it is?
