I want to get a Private license, but don't know which flight school is the best in Santa Barbara... Anyone who is familiar with them have any ideas? Thanks!:blueplane:

Yep, ask for Peggy at Red Baron Aviation.

I owned a school north of her and used her as a Laser Grade center, she also helped a few of my guys out on last minute lost supplies for check rides. She is really the type of person who you'd want to see running a school.

If you can make the drive, go to CP Aviation at SZP. No tower, cheaper, nearby practice area, great instructors.

In SBA:
Spitfire is overpriced and the owner has consistently been in serious legal trouble, Above All is a mill that overcharges, and trying to get a hold of anybody at Red Baron is problematic.

Try the SB Flying Club. Mike Fountaine is a great CFI.

Other local airports:
SZP: CP Aviation has cheap rentals, good aircraft, onerous and inane policies, and their Chief Pilot sends fictitious complaints to his buddy at the FSDO if you ever get tired of their instructors flaking out. Berkeley and Luci are good CFIs, Michael Philips is also if you can deal with his personality.

CMA:
Camarillo Flight Instruction and Phantom Aviation are both good outfits, instructor personalities vary widely.

I did training at Red Baron back in 2006 and had nothing but good things to say about them. Maybe things have changed since then that caused Warthog1984 to have a bad experience, but mine was positive.
