I just purchased a Piper Comanche with a constant speed prop and retractable gear. I have never flown complex before. Does anyone know of any schools or private individuals who would give lessons for complex time in the San Diego or LA area?

They are all independent and not beholden to club members. Click on them to get their contact info.
 
I used to fly with Plusone prior to buying my own airplane. You can only fly with them if you are a club memeber and I ended my membership. I am looking for someone with a plane to rent to learn to fly complex in because my plane is out of state getting an annual done and when complete I plan on flying it home.

I'm pretty sure you can reinstate your membership and do a month-to-month thing.. they're s pretty easy and low-key club to fly with and incidentally they have a Comanche on the line right now at Montgomery

Probably easier to reinstate with them as opposed to finding a whole new club and going through their enrollment process and all that

Check again. You can only rent from them if you are a member. The Instructors are independent. You pay them directly, not through Plusone. You schedule instructors directly with the instructor. Not through Plusone. Call some instructors.
 
I didnt know they had a Comanche on the line at Montgomery. Ill contact Dave and ask him if I can reinstate for a month.

He has his own airplane. He doesn’t need Plusone unless he wants to rent other airplanes

Oh. I assumed you would be using your own airplane. Why not use your plane?
 
I’ll give you ten hours free if you move the four feet of snow blocking my hangar door that apparently has turned into solid ice. Oh I’m not in SoCal so never mind but the deal is still available.

I explained above. I just bought the plane and it is out of state getting an annual. I flew Commercial to go see the plane, stand in front of it and had a CFI with me to test fly it. It is now getting an annual and some other minor stuff. Upon completion in about two weeks I would like to be able to fly it home but if I cant fly another one in the meantime then I will have to bring someone with me to fly it home. So my plan is to try to get checked out in one prior to going to pick mine up.
 
I would imagine that the majority of flight schools in an urban area like that can do your complex endorsement.

Where is the aircraft located? I'm a CFI with lots of PA24 time and numerous Comanche checkouts. Just up the freeway in Temecula. PM is I can be I can be of assistance.
 
The plane is in Idaho. I have a friend with a Comanche who is willing to go to Idaho with me to fly it back but I want to try to get some time in a complex aircraft prior to going.

Oh. Your post #3. The cost of getting back in for a month sounds like a good deal.
 
I would strongly suggest getting time in another Comanche if possible. I'm not sure flying a Cutlass or Arrow (or possibly weirder complex plane) around will do you any favors when it comes time to collect your new bird. It's not just practicing GUMP, it's a whole set of muscle memories, flows, and habits being developed that you'll need to redo when you get your plane.

The PlusOne deal sounds.. frankly, perfect.

If they won't sign you up for a month (and you can't cancel after 'wanting to join for a year' after a month without penalties), then I'd try to beg, borrow, or steal another PA24. Failing either of those options, I'd just wait for your new plane to exit Annual and fly with a CFI in Idaho.

Best option would be to hire @Htaylor or another CFI to go out to Idaho with you and give you your complex out there and on the ride back.

This is good advice. While not difficult to fly, the PA-24 has it's quirks, like any aircraft.
 
Check with your insurance. They may have pilot limitations on your plane as you have no complex time and will dictate how much time in type they will require.
