Where are they now?

IMO, you are positioning yourself as the governing authority. I think you should step down as an administrator.
I don't think you get the point. We are not the US government, so we are not required to grant anyone "freedom of speech". ;)

Note: This is a pet peeve of mine. The First Amendment only applies to the government, not your employer, clubs you might belong to, POA, etc., unless they are acting on behalf of the government.

That's just a personal opinion based on observation. Please take it for what it's worth without prejudice. My comments were in no way intended to be demeaning or harmful. I just wanted to point out that personal prejudices can cloud objective reasoning. The management committee should think of themselves as a court of law who only rules on the law and not let personal opinion enter the equation.

My post is not intended to be political. Decisions should be fair based on law and the rules of the forums

I rest my case..
It's nice to have opinions.

Maybe Mari and I see where we are now as what appears to us (correct me if I'm making improper assumptions) as a general degradation of the family feeling and friendly conversations we had when this board was stood up during the demise of the yellow board and its rebirth as the red board ... "things aren't like they used to be" and yeah, I'm a curmudgeon.

Sigh. Maybe it's my old age, but we were saying that since about the time Brian Austin left, or about a year or 18 months after this board started. And it's not just this organization, in college (*cough* years ago) the student radio station had a saying "it was better the year before you got here". Pretty common, methinks.

A number of folks got turned off by others, a toxic mix, so to speak. Some wanted more moderation, some wanted less. Brian (with an i), Chuck ("the founder"), KP, Dee, a bunch of others that most folks now on the board wouldn't know. From my perspective, everyone has something to contribute, but some manage to annoy others in the process. A couple won't come back because Spin is gone.

Such is life. Now for the real question: Where is Lady Malibu? :D

I'm with ya, in Alaska I flew around 900-1000 hours a year. On my days off I was no where near an airport.

I didn't consider flying in southeast as real Alaska, but the living conditions were much better. I really enjoyed Ketchikan although I did not spend much time there. I would go back in a heart beat if I had the chance.

Real Alaska has people that will spit chewing tobacco on the floor and leave used tampons and dirty diapers in your seat back pockets.

I'm fine with the more "western" feel of Southeast alaska, even if it isn't real alaska lol

The idea of flying on my time off isn't something I am against, it's just that spending $130/hr to fly some clapped out hunk doesn't really sound all that great. In a couple years I want to buy a cub or something similar, now THAT would be fun.

What you mean you don't like flying Cessna retracts that catch fire? LOL Well look forward to seeing you at what ever fly in we bump into each other ( preferably while we are walking around )

The MC is not the government, so we can insist that you play by the rules linked in @Mtns2Skies's post above.
Wait! We're not? Dang have to turn in my badge.

And Kate, Great to see you here again!

I miss henning, his posts were often fantasy, and rotor&wing, who brought the reality.

Speaking of he who must not be named, I was tooling along I-70 near St Louis at 80 mph when a Lexus sedan blew by me with the vanity plate in that name.

Cheers

I hope @Clark1961, @nauga, and @Stingray Don never leave.
Once, I was fortunate enough to meet Clark. Dude is damned funny! And I mean smart funny!
Nauga makes my wife laugh w/ all of his taglines. She lurks here and points his taglines out to me. What a creative idea. I'd like to meet him.
And stingray Don. Well what if he is really a stingray? That'd be different. I suspect he's not but who knows.

The rest of us, @SixPapaCharlie has no use for. Now we know. Hahaha. :)

But its true. Eren does frequently read Nauga's signature lines to me and it would be totally weird of Stingray Don was a Sting ray.

Discriminating against other species, I see. Speciesist.

And, I agree about the Nauga-isms. It has to take some serious effort to come up with so many engaging little comments. Sa- Lute!

Hopefully I'll get the chance to meet some of you in person at some point. Unfortunately, Dallas is a looooong way for my 172.

Sorry to disappoint but not much of a story to the stingray name. My other hobby is Corvettes and vintage Corvette restoration - hence the name Stingray Don. I'm not very active any longer as aviation takes up my available time and money. I still have 65 Stingray which I restored but it only gets out of the garage a few times year and I no longer take it to shows.

Here is the Stingray of Stingray Don... :)

Only if you trust that he's telling the truth about not actually being a real Stingray. I saw what happened to the Crocodile Hunter. You go and report back.

In before the lock

Well, it hasn't gotten locked yet and it's 4 pages in and has had MC participation so you know someone on the MC has been reading it.

We all know that the MC is just several implementations of a fairly unsophisticated Turing program.

I think that most organizations have a "golden age" in the eyes of their founders that is shortly in the time after it's founded. It then will change and evolve as time goes on and that is natural. Certainly for those of us who have been on PoA for 10+ years (I'm close enough to 10 years to count, I think) view the early days we were on has the heyday. Going to Gaston's, 6Y9, Wings every year, Tony's graduation party, lots of gettogethers. Many of my best friends and favorite people, folks who I consider family, are PoAers who I met and forged friendships with in that time period. I see some of the new members forging those same sorts of friendships here, so that tells me the place is still the same.

Our lives have evolved. Some people I talk to more than I used to, some I talk to less. Overall it's been a good 10 years here, I'm looking forward to the next 10.

We all know that the MC is just several implementations of a fairly unsophisticated Turing program.

Actually since becoming an MC member I just give my kids iPads logged into PoA and showed them how to ban people. I told them it was like using a hammer but it only destroyed souls rather than the kitchen wall.

Sorry to hear about EdFred! Hope he pulls through OK!

I haven't flown in some years - just got to be too costly - and so reading this site was kinda depressing. But the recent story about United's "Friendly Skys" got me wondering so I wandered over.

Liking the Xenforo software. Got another site I'm running that vBulletin just is getting out of date for (and I hate ver 5) - might look at this as a replacement.

I heard they made Ted a mod and fled...

On a more serious note, I pranged my lovely airplane in an incident that was entirely my own damn fault and since have not felt deserving to be in your august company.

No single moderator has the power to ban someone on this forum. So your wish has been granted. As far as I know it's always been the policy, MC members who've been around longer than me can correct me if I'm wrong. The only time you see a user permanently banned (as opposed to a suspension or temporary ban) immediately is if that person is a spammer. Permanent bans end up being the result of a number of warning and several suspensions/temporary bans prior to the permanent ban. There is also usually direct and pointed communication with those individuals to explain what it is expected that they do differently.
That is correct. When I set up POA as a refuge when the old AOPA boards were down (yellow!), I made sure to set it up so that no one person, not even me, could just do whatever they wanted.

To my knowledge, nobody has been banned for disagreeing with how the MC does the job or wanting them to change their ways. If they had, I would've been banned long ago. Some may remember I was a long time critic of the MC not doing enough moderating, based on my nearly 10 years of observation.
And as one of the original MC members, may I just say,

"HA HA! SERVES YOU RIGHT!!!" ;)

Well when member #1 says that, I'd say it has some credibility. ;)

Honestly this board's gone downhill since the first users registered. It was perfect when I was the only one here. Ever since then? Gone to ****...

Oh no! Is it repairable?

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully repairs can be made.

And the company around here is not that august - or any other month for that matter!
