After years living in NJ and then Europe, I'm living in a very pro-gun state that is Constitutional Carry.

Looking at getting a nice CCW. Went to the range yesterday and shot with a few different options. I liked the S&W M&P Shield Plus and the Walther PPS. Did not like the Glock 43X.

What are you guys and gals out there carrying?

My 92FS is too darn big (unless someone knows of a good carry holster for it?) so I usually have my little ruger 380 in the car and only really like it because it can tuck into that little ‘mini pocket’ in jeans. So I basically didn’t answer your question.

Sig 225 with the subcompact grips and barrel on it.
Dan Wesson 38 in a shoulder rig when I'm wearing a jacket.
Sig 229 when not carrying concealled.

I CCW either my Springfield XD-9 subcompact or my Kimber Ultra-Carry II, depending.

I rarely open carry, but when I do it's a Glock 21 in a Blackhawk Serpa Level III duty

I think "the one you're most likely to actually carry" is for the win. Even if it's not your "favorite shooter" something small that is more comfortable to wear, and therefore you'll wear it more often is probably best.

P365 for me, even though I'm a big guy with big hands. I'm just much more likely to take this little guy with me than a G22.

Springfield XD-S. I like the ergonomics better than the small Glocks or the S&W Shield, and it is far more accurate, better than I'd have though possible with a 3.3" barrel. And I like having a grip safety.

Wilson Combat EDC X9 is my daily carry.

I usually recommend people go to a retailer and find one a few that are comfortable to grip, then go to a range with rentals and shoot each of them.

I recently did this with the P365XL and the Shield Plus. The Shield Plus is simply a more comfortable gun for me to shoot, even more so with 147gr 9mm instead of 115gr or 124gr and I’ll probably pick one up around Black Friday.

The next most important choice is an appropriate belt and holster(s) as well as a spare mag carrier. The extra mag isn’t for capacity, it’s for when there’s a malfunction…if tap & rack doesn’t work, a mag change is in order.

I used to carry a 1911A .45 made in 1943 by Colt. Then I started carrying a 9mm Browning made in Belgium in 1956. Now my favorite is a Ruger LC-9 in 9mm. It fits in a pocket really well with minimal effort to remove from a packet without snagging on loose clothing.

Most of the time I carry my Kimber 1911 but also carry my SIG P320 if I need more rounds. Occasionally throw in the P229 with 357 SIG barrel if in the woods

Glock 27, with barrels for both .40 and 9mm. Springfield 911 in 9mm. Para-Ordnance in .45.

I also carry a Ruger 380 for EDC. I have larger firepower in the truck and the plane.

The "right" carry gun is kind of like the right airplane. It depends on your hand. Does it feel good in your hand? Is the grip the correct size? does your trigger figure naturally fall on the trigger? Are you comfortable loading/unloading it? I think you get the point...

Ideally, you'll try a number of different guns to see how they feel.

edit: another challenge is finding the right holster for you.

Hmmm....S&W M&P 9mm Shield....but sometimes this. But, I'm no gun slinger. I carry condition #3.

Getting a CCW around here is like pulling teeth from a rhino. But if I could, I'd probably carry my S&W 59. I'm not necessarily opposed to light, compact plastic guns for concealed carry, but they are pretty much all DA only. I understand the reasoning, but I think a DA only automatic is sort of pointless. And some good low light sights would be a Bonanza.

25 posts...is this the longest a 'recommendation' thread has ever gone without someone suggesting 'Bonanza'?

Bonanza gun.??

I don't conceal carry, but I've got a Citadel compact 1911 chambered for 9 mm that I really like, and I usually toss into my flight bag.

This^^^^ My favorite shooting guns are 1911 in either .45 acp or 9 mm. But I’m not going to carry those big things around nevermind extra mags. My little revolver might only have 5 shots but it won’t jam and most importantly it will be on me, not back at the house.

Neat thing about the some of the newer sigs (like the P365) is the ability to buy only the FCU (fire control unit) in order to quickly change caliber sizes without having to buy an entirely new gun. There's a lot of push among the weapons manufacturers to include that multiple-caliber ability in some of the newer designs.

Something about a guy with a handle like Checkout_My_Six posting a pic of his posterior . . .

Ditto, but not the “Pro”. Not having a safety would just make me a tiny bit more nervous.

My off-duty carry for my first few years was a Colt Cobra my dad gave me when he retired. The trigger pressure and throw for the first round of both is about the same. Different strokes.... Nervous is good....

Glock 27 without a doubt. :)

I very rarely carry, I don't frequent places where I feel it's necessary, but when I do it's a Firestar in .40S&W. Dang thing is heavy, though. I'd like to get something in .380 or .32, then maybe I'd carry it more, or maybe a .38 revolver like my wife's.

I thought that lighter rounds were better for short barrels, more muzzle energy?
Single stacks for anything smaller than a 45 are uncomfortable to me, so I agree the Plus is more comfortable especially with 13 rd magazine.

I never go to places where I feel carrying a gun is necessary. I'm not a cop or a soldier and no one pays me to go anywhere I need to carry a gun. I also don't drive anywhere I feel a seatbelt is necessary, but I always wear one because if I could predict when and where I would need one, I just wouldn't be there.
