Whats the Most Mass Produced Heavy Bomber, and Fighter Plane of World War II?

Could be of any side, Just the most Massed Produced Heavy Bomber, and Fighter of WWII.

Snag, this wouldn't be a school project or anything, would it?:dunno::fingerwag: Or just settling a "bar" bet?

Naa.... It's just for the Civil Air Patrol. Each week we are given something to research (by any means needed). I could not find the answers, so I thought I'd ask here.

Where (besides here) have you looked so far?

BTW, how do you like the CAP?

I've Typed in "Whats the Most Mass Produced WWII Heavy Bomber, and Fighter Plane" and went in to the links that looked like it may have what I'm looking for.

I really Like CAP. It's a ton of fun. I was just promoted to 3rd Element Leader tonight!

Congratulations!

BTW, I googled "fighter WWII produced statistics manufacturing" and got this link that may be of some assistance: http://www.taphilo.com/history/WWII/Production-Figures-WWII.shtml

And Wikipedia has some pages that should allow you to determine which side you should be researching: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II_aircraft_production

Thanks to everyone who helped!!
If you really want to have some fun with this I suggest a visit to your local library. There are librarians there that can really help. One of the things you did was a simple Google search and it appears you came up a little empty handed. That was because of your search criteria. A librarian can help you format your search properly, teach you about subject headings that will focus your search and can also show you how to use a bunch of databases that you may not have access to for free on the Internet. Knowing how to research a subject is a skill that you will find valuable as you continue your education. Knowing how to find information is the biggest hurdle to knowledge.

Over all, the US produced more of the B-24 Liberators than any other party in the war made of any other model.

....

Somewhat interestingly in light of popular perceptions, the B-24 was the real workhorse of the WWII bombers. More models made, could carry more of a payload, and I also think that it had a longer range than the B-17.

But, the B-17 is, undeniably and by far, the sexier airplane. I mean, the B-24 was about as ugly as it gets. Ugly...but effective.

I still like the B-17 better, though. :)

Ilushin Il2 Stormovic was the MOST produced combat plane in WW2, over 42,000. only 35,000 BF-109's , 14,000 JU-88's 19,000 B-24's. Nothing even comes close to the Il-2. Reference "Jane's aircraft of the world".. DaveR

The Il-2 was the most produced combat plane ever, and will remain so. But it was an attack aircraft and the issue here is bombers and fighters.

This be true.. so the BF-109 @ 35,000 & the B-24 @ 18,000+ (just short of 19,000) win. In action the Il-2 almost makes the bridge between fighter and attack, many fighters(notable the P-47) were used as attack A/C few heavy bomers, but many meduim bombers were also used this way... Even 109's had a hard time brings down a Il-2 in combat, mostly because the Il-2 flew in packs that protected each other, but even alone , if he had a rear gunner(they did not always carry one)an Il-2 was still a hard victory for a single fighter to bag. Quite true. But part of the reason for the displacement in history of the B-24 by the B-17 can be attributed to the loyalty if the Fortress crews. The B-17 was nearly universally loved by it's crews. And for reasons that can be deduced from the photos on the website linked below...

Snag,
Hope you don't mind me not giving you the answer, but I find that these sorts of questions are actually fun to research, and you learn the most unexpected things while doing so!

I mean, the B-24 was about as ugly as it gets

Nope. B1900, Shorts 360, Shorts 330, Shorts Skyvan, Curtiss AT-9, XP-75, BAe Nimrod, Fairey Gannet, Dornier 228, Transavia PL-12, 747 Dreamlifter ('an airliner with a bad allergic reaction').....to name a few.

The B-24 looked like the box it was shipped in. I know, other planes have had that said about them, too.

And you sure didn't see a lot of shot up B-24s coming home. Not to the degree of some B-17s (and P-47s, another flying tank). Speaking of flying tanks, that IL-2 Sturmovic qualified quite strongly in that department.

Shorts sure knows how to make an ugly airplane! I know a CFI who specifically did not apply to a certain freight-dog job because he didn't "want to be caught dead in a Shorts."

747 Dreamlifter ('an airliner with a bad allergic reaction').....to name a few.

And it's STILL better-looking than the A380! :D
