Travelling with a little one, and wanting to show her the night air show. The on airport Hilton would be perfect to minimize going over her bed time. Seems like missing bed time makes the next day or two a true battle. Everytime I look to book a room, its sold out. Who do I have to bride to get a room or whats the special sauce to book one online?

Know the owner or know someone who knows the owner. The GM blocks all the rooms with fake event parties and releases them on orders of the owner.

You don't want to know. There's a very small window of room availability if I recall right after the previous year's show. Further, rooms during the show come with a minimum number of nights and goes for like $400+/night.

From what I understand, the EAA books all the rooms at that Hilton for Airventure. Would be nearly impossible to get one. Try getting creative, like an AirBnB, or one of the houses the locals will rent out. I rented one a few years ago just a very few blocks from the airport. I was less than 3 minutes from the airport, at less than 1/2 of the price of any hotel room.

Yes. Of course, there's also the Super 8 right next to the Hilton, though that's also likely booked already.

One of our co-chairs books into one of the newer hotels that's just south of the field on the US-45 frontage road. Can't remember the name. There's also a Travelodge or something like that about midfield on the far side of the highway and a Fairfield Inn up near the others.

Actually, I stood in line behind at the Oshkosh Hilton buffet line behind Barron Hilton. I asked the guy at the carving station if he was a bit nervous serving Mr. Hilton. I'm sure HE always gets a room.

I talked to the front desk last time I was there about booking for OSH. There is no way. Absolutely no way. Unless you're big Hollywood name or an Arab prince.

Are you a Hilton Diamond member and willing to pay north of $400/nt? Then it can be done.

Oddly, I was able to stay at the HGI at SunNFun for points (and less points than the Hampton down the road).

As I stated, during the show, the rooms are sold in seven night blocks or something along those lines at $400.

I've stayed at the hotel outside of convention week and it's a nice hotel. I've also hung out in the bar (both the one off the lobby and the deck) and been to several catered events during the show.

Barron Hilton net worth....$4.4 billion :eek:

I am actually looking at how to become a Diamond member. I am Gold status now. Great info!

It's simple:
(1) 30 stays in a calendar year, or
(2) 60 nights in a calendar year, or
(3) 120,000 Hilton Honors Base Points in a calendar year

Having Gold gets you nothing towards this (other than whatever stays you used to qualify count, if you have Gold status because you have the Hilton or Platinum AMEX cards then it gets you nothing).

I'm not sure Diamond status gets you anything toward booking during AirVenture either.

400 a night at Osh may seem high, stayed at Appleton this year and they had a significant price increase for the show, room was 300 + a night,of course every service was price gouging. Rental cars 200 a day. I’ll be going back to Green Bay and taking the bus this year.

Diamond status has a "48 hour guarantee" where, even if the hotel is booked up (within a certain threshold of overbooking), with Diamond status you will be guaranteed a room if you reserve more than 48 hours in advance. I've used it a couple of times to get a hotel closer to a concert/event venue.

I just checked HGI at OSH, and it's showing it as completely booked for me (Diamond status), too. So no dice.

But did you phone HHonors customer service and have them try?

They might ask me to land on the wrong runway/taxiway to prove it though..

Not a problem, even if you wreck, it'll be cleaned up in record time and the news will be all positive in the newspaper the next day. The show must go on. LOL....

I mean seriously... Jack lawn darted a jet, and it was cleaned up and gone in a couple of hours... LOL... and it was alllll the controller's fault... :)

Everything that happens at OSH is "safe" and perfect, don't'cha'know? :)

Book everything in August and prices are much more reasonable. Car at MKE is $50/day back then, hotel in Greenbay about $65/night. Now? Very high and still going up.

Cars aren't usually a problem. We've even had people pick them up at the Hertz desk at OSH (even though there's really nothing else in the terminal there).
Green Bay really isn't that far away.

Of course, I've just camped for the past 25 or so years.

No. Every other time I've been able to use the 'Diamond 48 hr reservation guarantee', it has been visible on the website.

Still worth trying. I suspect they block out all the rooms as soon as they are loaded. That doesn't mean they're sold. The Diamond CSR has a lot more weight than you do, especially when you say something like "wow, that's a first. Marriott never did that to me."

I think any other way of getting a room would have you tweeting #metoo

Haven't heard of anybody shaking loose a room at OSH. I've managed to get in on rooms opening up at the HGI an SnF. In fact, they didn't change the "points" required to book a room there, so I got the room on no more points than usual even though the room rate was jacked up.

That's the way quality hotel chains like Marriott would handle it.

I got booted from my families timeshare once in South Lake Tahoe on 4th of July weekend. They had “sold” our room to someone else. Removed us by police force. Actually ended up flying with the officer that escorted us out, two days later. Cool guy!
Took two years and lots of attorney money BS to get them to take back that “timeshare”. Don’t buy into a timeshare

Oh, I was only checking to see if Diamond made a difference - I'm not actually looking for a room at OSH. If I make it to OSH, I'll be next to the wing of the plane. :)

Last year, I stayed at the University for the first time. All of these years, and I had never tried it. WELL worth the money, 3night minimum.

The 48 hour guarantee perk that comes with status usually has a clause exempting special event.

I called a hotel in osh, on the day of my arrival last year (weather looked iffy, I wasn't game for camping) and they booked me right in!

Call them up and ask if they have a room available during this years Airventure. When they say no, ask if the have one for next year. When they say no again, ask about the year after that. Keep going until you wear them down. :)

They're just going to tell you that they don't take reservations more than a year in advance. BTDT.

Ron is correct, they can't book what isn't in the system.

However if you do that with money and start at $100/night, then go to $200, $300 etc until you wear them down, that might work.

Abracadabra? No, I kid. In all seriousness, camping at an adjacent farm is far more fun than a hotel!

I haven't been to OSH in many years, and I am wondering if it would be feasible to stay somewhere farther into town and take an Uber. Would the road traffic allow for something like that?
