I am a dad!
So, because of a MAJOR scheduling SNAFU, I haven't flown a real airplane since the 5th of last month. I'm quickly going into withdrawal (I went and sat at the airport fence for about four hours today while the wife was at work). So, because she is a wonderfully kind and caring individual, the wife has authorized me to spend money and get checked out in something. I have it narrowed down to:

1. A Seminole (I've flown various PA-44s a lot, and really like them).
2. A Diamond Star (I've worked around them a few times...always wanted to fly one)!
or
3. A Duchess (Never flown one, figured it might be interested to try a new light twin).

What say you?

None of the above. Go for the Citabria at Chesapeake Aviation.

diamond star. you fly twins all the time. the diamonds are fun flying airplanes.

I was DEFINITELY eying that one. The ONLY thing that has me looking at the others is so that it can be for the wife too...her grandparents live within flying distance, so I think my first checkout should be something she'd want to ride in; she's terrified of flying, so I don't think the Citabria would fit that bill. Some day, though...some day!

Ahhh... That makes TOTAL sense. Go for the Diamond, then. I've heard rave reviews about them.

citabria's a GREAT XC airplane...right...

junelle will like the Diamond

It's the DA-40, unfortunately. If they had a DA-42 anywhere near here, there would be no questions!
Oops! Sorry about that. I saw "Duchess" along with "Seminole" so I'm automatically thinking about the Twinstar.

The DA-40 is a cool plane. I was able to get a few hours in one back in Atlanta. It has a pretty good cruise for its size and power. I'd definitely enjoy having one. But, not a prayer for the DA-20... I'd go for the Citabria, first.

Just a bit off the thread, but when did you transition to Virginia Beach, and in what are you currently involved?

DA40 without a doubt. The other two are boring trainer twins. That's not to say that the DA40 is impressive, but at the very least, it's a very responsive plane to fly and it's really fun to land (once you get it, it's easy to make every landing into a landing where your passengers will hardly be able to tell when you touch down....).

Have fun!

PS: You still need to get checked out in my plane!

Junelle and I moved down here last month, actually. I got transitioned to the Q-400 and based in Newark, so Virginia Beach gives me a nice, easy, one leg commute to work, and also puts us within two hours of her grandparents. We are planning on heading back up to Maine for a visit at some point this fall, so I'll definitely be giving you a call, when we get that scheduled!

That's encouraging, I need all the help I can get with landings! It's still on my to-do list, rest assured. You just need to bring it out east!:D

So, like, ask her which one she would feel the best about riding in. My guess would be whatever is the biggest...

I did ask her, actually. Her answer: "They all involve flying, right?" "Ya." "Then I don't care, whatever you want."

She's ridden in a Seminole before and didn't seem to like it any more than the Skyhawk. She's usually so freaked out by the time the runup is complete, it doesn't matter what the runup is done in .
