What resources do you use to find other pilots to fly with?

Hi there - new member on PoA. Curious about resources that anyone uses to find new pilots to fly with/safety pilots for Instrument currency/etc. Is it just word of mouth/flight school/instructor recommendations?

Also curious where many of you find/meet GA pilots who you fly with regularly; not necessarily performing safety pilot roles but maybe just someone else who enjoys coming with on flights here and there.

For context, I'm an Instrument rated pilot (checkride passed on Aug 1, 2017, and looking to stay current), but also trying to split cost of renting aircraft.
 
I just got an email yesterday from a local school/rental place. apparently somebody was looking for other pilots to split time with so the girl in the office emailed everyone. I replied and said I liked the 'message board' type email and hoped to see more of that.

the place I trained out of had a means to send emails thru the scheduler to other members but the system rarely worked.

I've seen a local meetup group but I never joined.
 
@eman1200 Out of curiosity, what scheduler was the school trying to use? I normally rent out of a couple that use Flight Schedule Pro. While you said that the system rarely worked, I'm wondering if it was the software itself or just getting it set up. May be worth looking into, at least from my end...

actually I'm not sure, I'll see if I can find out.
 
State and local pilot associations
EAA chapters
Local flight schools
Local airports - the bulletin boards
 
looks like it's called 'Shedule a Plane' and whatever, it does the trick as far as scheduling goes. it does have the option to get a hold of other members, I don't know if it's configured or not. it worked once or twice a few years ago, didn't work a whole bunch of times, then I just stopped trying.
 
I found one right here. Guy was a little rusty, hadn't flown in awhile and wanted someone with him while getting his confidence back. Maybe a new category is in order. "Looking for Rides" or whatever. I've seen other sites that have that. Sometimes it's just looking for company. Sometimes it's to get a ride to or from where they are dropping off or picking up a plane from an Annual or some other work, go look at a plane for sale etc
 
Maybe let the folks here on POA know where you are at. Maybe someone in your area is on here and might want to hook up.

For starters, where are you located? POA is primarily the US but there are branches in Canada, PR, Israel, Europe, etc.
 
If there's a college aviation program or flying club in the area then you see if any poor students could use some free flight time acting as safety pilots.

My guess is that he's in Colorado Springs as the airman information page on www.faa.gov lists a person with the name Naish Gaubatz living there who got his certificate on 8/1/2017 which is the same date in the OP.

I don't understand why people don't include geographic info when asking a question where answers could be highly influenced by location. We see that all the time on here. Providing that info would result in fewer irrelevant answers and more relevant ones.

In which case, head over to KFLY and meet the folks hanging out at the airport.
 
I generally hate flying with other pilots. But I like attending pilot fly-ins. The best resource for that has been both here on the POA and also the Purple Board.

:rolleyes: Ha. I forget that you youngsters use hook up in a different manner than do those of us who are a bit older. But hey, if you can get that sort of hookup out of it as well... bonus!

Personally the main reason I'm here and on a couple Facebook groups is to make sure I know where the pilots are gathering so I can go the other way.
