What plane should you buy? Here ya go

Stand by for the “does anyone know a good A&P for a prebuy on a shuttle?” post...:D

Can you imagine letting Garmin loose updating that panel. Yikes!

Seven seats (like my old Land Cruiser).
Apparently there's no GA button on the throttle though. :p

Yeah, but that useful load, though...

I think the maximum landing weight is quite restricted compared to max TO weight. ;)

Wasn’t someone asking for a short-field plane recommendation a bit ago? As long as they only need to take off from there they should be good...:p

Can I fit my wife, kids and bags with full fuel? Also, this looks pressurized. I hear that is a real maintenance nightmare. 80's panel would need to be replaced, too.

the millennials have never heard of the space shuttle so the airbnb idea won't "fly"

No total time listed...pass :)

I notice they also conveniently neglected to mention all the dead-stick landings they've had to make in it...

What rating will I need to log PIC time.

Holy crap that put my brain into overdrive

How many hours are on the shuttles?
Do the astronauts log flight time?
Is there always a PIC?
think of how hard it would be to log day vs night.
If they were up for more than 90 days, how do they get their landings for currency?
How does the gross weight effect flight characteristics?
Do you have to be in the atmosphere to be 'flying'?
Is there a type rating?
Did the tower clear them to land?

My insurance keeps going up..
Since this has no propeller, and no engine, will that reduce my premium? If I take out 2 seats, can I fly it under basic Med?

fly to the scene of the incident, or be recovered at the scene of the tragedy

By definition, all millennials were alive and cognizant during the shuttle program.
By some definitions, they were alive during the shuttle program but we are still waiting for cognition. (Posted by one of the many “I’m not a millennial, I belong to a tiny cusp generation!” millennials floating around and loathing that they have nothing in common with people they probably have a lot in common with.)

How does the gross weight effect flight characteristics?
Drastically. At the maximum gross weight of 4,400,000 lbs, the craft will climb at an average of 50,000 ft/min from sea level through FL1000. Lightly loaded at 165,170 lbs (basic empty weight plus a solo FAA-sized pilot), it won’t maintain altitude at all, and will descend at 10,000 ft/min below 10,000 MSL.

So I can take my wife, kids and bags for weekend to the beach... excellent. That climb rate is impressive. Much better than the 172 I rent.

How am I going to adhere to the 250kt speed limit under 10,000 MSL in this thing? Can I get a waiver?

To be fair fuel exhaustion is a problem in any plane

OK, first of all. Why has it been parked so long? Hangar queen? Are we looking at cam corrosion issues? Also, they should note warbird in the ad, that's worth an easy million extra.

The real thing is though, you oddballs who buy these craft are wrong, the market has spoken and the best plane for every situation is a 182 or a bonanza. all the others are just because you cna't afford one of those, not because you might have different needs.

By the way, it has MULTI rockets on it. all that's going to do is kill you in a vmc rollover. you'd be safer in my home built vw powered rv than one of those multi engine death traps

How old are you that you don't realize that millennials were alive for the entire time the space shuttle flew missions?

Edit: I realize there were test flights in the 70s.

Yeah, and the fuel fraction at takeoff is rather heartbreaking. Not to mention that two of the engines will need frequent overhauls.

On the plus side, only one owner....

Have you found an A&P experienced in make & model for the pre-buy?
