Can someone please tell me what kind of airplane this is? I bought a picture of this for my wall, but don't know what I bought.

I believe it is an early Cessna 310. The expansive size was required in order for the aircraft to carry its own spare parts.

I think I saw one at the US Air Force Museum in Dayton. Designated Lockheed C37. Might have been another model, not sure.

Beech 18 or Cessna Bobcat...I don't really know, just guessing and trying to get outta pre-flighting above my avatar. :)

I really wish I knew so much about the old airplanes...

Okay, smarty pants, when did Cessna change from tail wheel?

I have that same picture on my wall. Daughter bought it for me, just because.

EDIT: What I have is exactly like the pic you posted except in the lower left corner there is a very visible stratus cloud and I can see the entire bridge save for where it disappears behind the aforementioned cloud.

I'm going to take a WAG (no Google, no knowledge at all - as I'm sure my answer will verify).... 1955?

Chip. You crack me up!

I believe you are actually correct! I think this calls for a ROTFLMFAO!

Whatever room is left was used to carry cash to pay mechanics, and to buy bailing wire, chewing gum, bondo, duct tape, rivits, pay Autopilot's Central to fix the auto pilot, etc.

Mine is currently squawk free...thanks to all of the things mentioned above. Sigh. :D

Oh yeah...I fogot to mention.

Did you notice how my byline changed to 'Working on the 2nd one?'

What that referrs to is 'Million.'

See, I used to be a millionare. Then I bought the 310, and spent my one-and-only-million dollars maintaining. Now I'm working on earning my 2nd million. HA!

OK. I've had more time to think about this. I'm going to refine my WAG somewhat. I'll say.... The 310 was introduced in 1953…with deliveries beginning in 1954. The 172 and 182 were 1956 and the 150 was 1959.

I'd like to reiterate that I'm just making an educated guess and that Steve See didn't send me an email with these dates.

The first 'Original' 310 was model years 1955-1957. (By the way, it had electric tri-cycle gear) HA! So you would have to go back to 1938 to the 'prototype' 310 with the tail wheel, as Chip said.)

The 'A' was introduced in 57-58 for the military. In 1958 the 'B' model (also Sky King's Songbird II) was launched.

That is a Lockheed VP-1 ventura, or a L.12 super lectra..cival version circa 1936
