What Is Your Longest Cross Country?

Evidently people here don't understand the term "layover"

Anyone know what the longest range, single-pilot, certified aircraft is?

KDVT (Phnx AZ) to KBNO (Burns OR)
675 Miles - fueled in Battle Mtn NV. Would have gone further but was getting bounced around in late summer heat.
In a LSA - CTSW

2nd place winner.

But I'll w/d your nomination since you could have easily stopped to pick me up en route to KOSH.
I don't have the bomb shackle mod on my RV-8, and that's about the only place I could have carried you! lol

Kosh -kmsy (New Orleans)
Exactly 5 hrs to hanger ( some squirming at the end)
970 miles

Velocity Std Rg:yes:
BB

Max Conrad flew a standard Comanche 250 from Casablanca to the west coast, 6000+ nm without a ferry tank. Does that count?

My longest XC, stopping only for food & fuel, was Ft. Lauderdale FXE to Huntington, WV KHTS, then going an additional 4nm across the Ohio River to KHTW. No idea of the distance, and too tired to look it up (6.8 down, but I stopped overnight so it doesn't count; 6.2 with a fuel stop / lunch on the way back). EDIT: 743 nm, KFXE --> KHTW.

My longest jaunt was to Cody, WY KCOD, flew about 25 hours but stopped for sightseeing both ways and to tour Yellowstone. Distance was slightly over 2700 nm with only two diversions for weather before Instrument rating.

Kyip-ktkx-kmnz-kdrt when picking up the arrow. 1158NM. Semi longish day but I was home well before sundown. Little teleporting machines these cans can be...

You sure about that "no ferry tanks" thing? I was aware of the flight, but I don't see how it could be done without tanks...

I'm 9,356% sure he meant WITH a ferry tank(s).

Mine would probably be my student long solo cross country, 76G-KAPN-KTVC-KMKG-76G, just under 500 nm. Except for the layover part, not sure whether dinner counts? I did have dinner at KMKG. If that's a disqualifier, then it's probably my recent flight from KVLL back to KMPV. 475 nm direct, more like 485 as filed, and flown.

No, I haven't done any really ambitious cross countries... prolly should do something about that.

KLOT > KHSD
576.3nm
5.8 hours, 1 fuel stop
172n no autopilot

Friend of mine is working on his ppl. After he's done and gets some hours we're going to take a trip to the SAn Diego area, multi day type thing 1000nm. Should be fun.

You're right. With HUGE ferry tanks. Seems he did it again, Casablanca to somewhere in Texas. Most any plane he flew seemed to have quite long range.

Route (sorta): KPAE -> KSDN
Distance: 951nm SLD
Time: 10.6 there, 9.3 back

Saw this guy at OSH. 360 gals in a Lancair IV.

Why not include commercial as long as we were PIC ?
We're still piloting the airplane... It's not like we are riding in back.

What did he do about adding oil?

It is just for fun so throw out there whatever you like. Just wanted to see what other pilots similar to myself have flown. Sounds like I am at the bottom of the food chain with my little 3 hour flight!

Have done upwards of 10 hour flights with fuel stops. Did kosh to KOWD with two stops .usually do fla to ma in two days with fuels stops around ten hours down and 9 up.

Flew from Ketchican, Alaska to Laramie, WY in one day down the inside passage. In June it is light in Alaska at 3 am. Flew until 12:00 mindinght. That was enough for one day.

Honolulu to Lugano

We flew the boss from HNL to LAX and when we were on approach to LAX he came up and told us to go to Lugano. 17 hours in the Falcon 50.

I'm embarrassed to say but I just flew my longest single-leg yesterday, Monroe NC to Charleston WV (EQY -> CRW). 206.6nm. First solo flight in the 300hp t-tail Lance which for some reason ATC kept referring to as a Skyhawk.

Longest day trip, Biloxi, MS to Chicago, IL; 10hrs

Longest Multi day trip, Chicago, IL to Juneau, AK; 34hrs (3 1/2 days)

Just for fun - what has been your longest cross country?

Here is the criteria:

1. Must have been PIC and sole manipulator of controls
2. No layovers except for fuel
3. Personal flight (non-commercial)

I don't have much to brag about but here is mine:

Departure: Olive Branch Mississippi (KOLV)
Destination: Indianapolis Indiana (KMQJ)
Flight Time: 3 hours
Distance: 345 NM
Aircraft: 172n

Probably kMRY --> kPHX in a -172K
via kPOC and KBLH (all VFR)

Waynesburg PA (KWAY) to Stillwater OK (KSWO). 831 mm great circle distance; 850 mm as flown due to weather. 2 fuel & bathroom stops. Logged 8.0.

I assume you took on fuel at LAX?

Were you able to do all the paperwork and prep-work for the international flight on that short of notice?

Memphis to Oshkosh...in a Cub. Six fuel stops, two days and headwinds each way. 620sm.

Jim R
Collierville, TN

N7155H--1946 Piper J-3 Cub
N3368K--1946 Globe GC-1B Swift
N4WJ--1994 Van's RV-4

KGEU-KCMA. 341 KM and 4.2 hours in a P model 172. I am not kidding when I say I watched trucks pass me on I10 below me.

Okay good!!

I think my longest is somewhere between six and seven hours. Boston (BED) to San Jose del Cabo (MSJD) if I recall correctly. That was non-stop in a small cockpit airplane. Not sure how I tolerated that...

Well, since we've opened up the field to no-limit hold 'em, I'll throw mine out.

KBAD-PGUA. non-stop, non-great-circle route to add insult to injury. Never doing that again if I can help it. I did get fuel, 29,000 gallons in 20 minutes flat, but I didn't stop for it, so it still counts as a one-legger. I also took 8 engines and a parachute with me, but hey if you ain't cheatin' you ain't trying. #winning :D

Good work, and thank you for your service!!
Do you recall how many hours of flying that was??

And I assume you had a relief crew as that's SOP for commercial airlines, so you can't count that

Longest (distance): Vancouver WA (KVUO) to Kansas City (KMKC), fuel stops at Missoula MT and Rapid City SD, Beech K35, 1,339 nm, 9.1 hours.

Longest (time): Minneapolis MN (KFCM) to KVUO, fuel stops at Jamestown SD, Glasgow MT, Kalispell MT and Pasco WA, Grumman-American Cheetah, 1,272 nm, 14.6 hours.

KCOD-NC26 1384 NM. We stopped in Rapid City flying out, but coming back we only made fuel stops (well and lunch) stops.

Is that a question for me? I assumed 2020's mission was a military one. Commercial airliners don't do airborn refueling.

One that comes to mind is:
!k7 Fredonia KS
MFE Mcallen TX
7.9 hours in a TriPacer
Could have some longer ones over the last 39 years.

Jacksonville to Gastons, 660 nm, SEEMED like forever in a Pitts. (3 en route fuel stops.) I've flown more than twice as far/twice as long in one day in several other airplanes, but that was easily the most tiring flight I've ever done.

And then I went back the next day.
