A roof to keep the snow and ice off is the minimum. Electric power sure is nice. Some hangars have doors, but none that I've been in.

Oh, and welcome. We've heard a lot about you.

Can't live without? My Mooney--sure does make the hangar a wonderful place to be when not flying it :yesnod:

Some other items (assuming this is a T-hangar w/door) that get used regularly:

Table or bench
Shop Vac
Work light
Extension cord
creeper (if low-wing) or step ladder (if high)
chair (just to take a break, smoke a cigar, etc.)
trash can

If you own your plane you will, if it did not come so equipped, want to invest in a pilot/owner's tool kit. I didn't consider this part of the "hangar stuff" since I keep it in my plane and pull it out as needed.

The bag should have all the tools you would need to do the allowable PM on your plane, assuming here that you don't have a homebuilt, which would be a totally different set of rules, along with some extra stuff like duct tape, paper towels, tie-wraps, and any special items that are associated with your particular model. Don't forget that will all items carried in your plane, think light.

Sporty's sells a kit similar to what I have described if you don't want to pull it together yourself.

Hi Mary!

Proper drainage so that snow/ice doesn't build up in front
of the door. The ground in front of the J row hangars at
KBED is poorly graded so that the snow/ice melting off
the roof puddles in front of the hangar. It can be so
bad that the door can be frozen shut. (and ma$$port
wants more than $625/month for those lousy hangars)

It would also be nice if the roof doesn't leak.
 
- fire extinguisher. A real one, not the sissy household stuff.

- fridge
- desk
- old couch
 
Powertow
Electricity
Ladder (to check the h-stab)
Shelves to hold miscellaneous stuff
Full water jug
Basic tools
 
Some good suggestions on here so far. I'd add: a refrigerator full of your favorite pre/post flying beverages, kerosene heaters, compressor and some air tools, some shelves with a variety of those Rubbermaid containers full of cleaning and maintenance supplies, shop vac, creeper, stereo dock for my iPhone, camping chairs, step ladder, and last but not least, a bunch of those small parts organizers full of an insanely expensive list of screws, washers, nuts, bolts and assorted other hardware from Aircraft Spruce that will service every need on your plane.

It kinda depends on if I'm equipping a grass roots hanger location or one at a busy "serious" airport. My hanger at BWI has nearly nothing in it and my hanger at Annapolis has all of the above and a lot more.

I have buffers, grinders, vise, 4 tables, sheet metal brakes, complete tool set, snips, peg boards, air compressor, jacks, extension ladder, radio, heaters, halogen work lights, a fire extinguisher, and an airplane!

RogerT has a freakin TV and a heated study, and WIFI!! (No, I'm NOT kidding. :no:) He does not have A/C yet though. :lol:

After heat, electricity, fridge......An internet connection. After that, indoor plumbing.
 
Electricity (altho the first hangar didn't, but the airplane was only it in for 6 months)
Nice, comfy couch
Microwave
Small fridge
Bike (it's 2-3 miles from one end of the airport to the other!)
Porta-potty (everything locks up at 9 pm when the tower shuts down, and in the summer out west, flying at night is fantastic!)

Oh, and yeah, all those tools and stuff.

An ATM is always nice to have when airplanes are involved.
 
a broom, tools, a vise, work bench, air compressor.a jack, ladder, a heater of some sort, I have an old oil furnace. some chairs, table, an old fire truck, fridge, an airplane, electricity, water, rest room. That is about all I have.
 
Not sure about essential but we have the following:

2 sofas
1 rocker/recliner
2 work benches
assorted tools
vice
fridge (always stocked ;) )
shop vac
shop broom
throw rugs for in front of the sofas
trash can with a box of trash sacks
1 plane
 
11 mechanics ready to work.

I do! ;) Hence why my hangar has:

My plane
A couch/futon
A desk with filing drawers (for paperwork)
Shelves with pertinent books
Copious amounts of old magazines to read
Air compressor
Lights (both fluorescent and two huge sodium lights)

In the attached workshop I have all of my tools plus a fridge with pre-(no alcoholic) and post-(alcoholic) beverages.

One thing I did was build a workbench (2 1/2 by 6) and put it on wheels. I have my toolboxes on top of it, plenty of work space on top and below, and it moves around the hangar to wherever I need it.

Of course the bathroom is just a few steps away in the house! LOL
 
ScottM, if I had a hanger I would not want that couch potato within a mile of it. My wife wouldn't really appreciate it and then I might not be able to keep her (the wife) much less any hope of a plane... I'm just sayin':no:

Hi Mary,
We washed our plane yesterday so I would include the water to include a spigot for a hose, and then you have the requisite bucket, brush, towels and creeper for getting under the plane to clean the belly. We have so much dust blowing here that the couch would have to be OLD and covered w/ some sort of blanket that you could take outside and wollop to clear the dirt off. so I'll just go w/ plastic washable chairs
electricity, workbench of sorts, cabinet for stuff.
 
I think the best thing to have in a hangar is a door that opens directly into your house. :D
