Their web site has been down for the past two weeks (www.airborne-leathers.com/).

They posted a huge ad in the last AOPA pilot, you'd think they would have wanted to capitalize on that investment...

I doubt they went under. They were at AOPA Expo in Hartford, Ct last month and recently got a very large order from CAP. Has anyone tried calling them?

I called.

"The web site is broken. We're fixing it for next year's (?) line. Call us at that number to order a jacket."

Alon can't call that number. :dunno: One of us could relay for him.

Obviously somebody must have realized that the web site wasn't working and fixed the problem...

As a general rule, I don't do business with companies that do not have a decent website...

Thanks for your offers to call them on my behalf - I appreciate that very much.

Alan, I have met both owners and they are really great guys. The jackets are truly a great value IMHO. I have no connection with the company, other than I am a very satisfied customer, as are a number of friends that purchased from them.

Regards,
John

Ditto what John said regarding the jackets - I've had mine for a while (but less than a year) and am TOTALLY happy with it! No connection, other than as a satisfied customer! :)

Reviving the Thread...

They have an ad in AOPA and the web site is a single page.

Anyone still have these products? Where are they made? How are they holding up?

I've had one of their jackets for a couple of years now, it still looks exactly as good as it did when I got it, despite being my default coat - I wear it 90% of the time I need a jacket, so it's gotten a lot of wear. Holding up great! :D

What's the best way to clean and condition leather? What do you all use/recommend? I have a two-year old leather flying jacket my wife got me, I love it, but haven't done anything to it, and I think it probably needs some sort of maintenance so it will remain supple and not dry/crack.

I used to have some leather cleaner/conditioner that I got from a place that sells what some folks would call cowboy boots. It was in a flat can similar to paste wax, and you work it in with a clean cloth and wipe it off. It was a Kiwi brand product, but I have no idea what it was called anymore. It worked great, didn't leave any residue behind, and I don't think it had any petroleum distillates in it. I used it on all kinds of smooth leather - boots, jackets, and even my wife's purse. If I had any more, I'd use it on my leather recliner. I need to find some more of that stuff. I'll probably look in a shoe/boot store for it.

Om a related question - how do you go about getting a leather jacket re-lined? I have one that's probably 15 yrs old, but the lining is pretty much in tatters. I haven't started looking too seriously yet, but I think I'll try some local tailors.

edit: I think the stuff I remember using was mink oil. But it was in a paste wax form.

I need a new zipper on mine... Does anyone even have the skills to fix stuff any more, or are we a completely throw-away society now?

Saddle Soap is used for cleaning leather. Kiwi sells it as does many others.

A shoe repair or a tailor is good for repairing/replacing leather.
