It is rare to get one's hands-on war relics. Rifles might still be a bit easier, but tanks and aircraft are usually found in military museums and barely anywhere near their prime. But for the handsome price tag of $9 million, you can own a piece of aviation history that is fully restored to its former glory. A rare unit of the B-17E, that was built in Seattle and used to further the autopilot system, is now almost restored and available for sale.

Tanks and rifles are cheaper to feed. And not in that order.

Part of the Paul Allen collection. Been for sale for a while now. Can’t help but think the insurance situation is driving away potential buyers.

Unfortunately, the number of people who truly want a B-17 is pretty small. And the subset of those who have $12-15M to spend on one is tiny.

I hope this one finds a good home.

insurance
..at some point.. do people ever operate these uninsured? I have to imagine for people buying in cash flying peculiar planes of which there are either very few (or no others) flying the insurance is going to be nearly impossible to get

Many forgo hull insurance, but I don’t know of any who don’t at least do liability.

The Ex is busily converting Allen’s collection to dollars. She has zero interest in keeping any of his pet projects going.
