Two QHD monitors in one package for $1200 when you can have two for $400 and all you lose is the unnecessary refresh rate only twitch gamers need... and you can orient the other ones horizontal or vertical if desired.
How does that make any sense at all unless you need the refresh rate for gaming?
Nice for an immersive first person shooter or maybe a flight sim if you have the PC horsepower to do that, but man that’s a chunk of cash for no good reason for most folks.
I mean other than if you just want it. We are all airplane buffs around here and mostly not for reasons other than “I want it” but still.
Aren’t most folks fixing the small monitor for the desktop PC thing these days by just using mobile devices like tablets anyway? I don’t find myself at the actual computer desk all that much at home unless I’m working from home or working on a coding/system setup/config sort of thing like my home automation sever.
Surfing and such is just the phone or a tablet these days. Sites that can’t do proper mobile browser support are just summarily dismissed for the most part at this point.
Totally understand your very valid points. One generation of my set up involved an old 1080 16:9er in the vertical and a new and vastly superior 4k as primary. I liked having the vertical one for cataloging files and clips, outputting pinstaface or instabook, and my reddit feed. But, two different resolutions and color bits and refresh rates...drove me and the computer batty. I had to keep the door shut to the office so as not to offend the feng shui of the house. Sheesh.
So then it is down to one 4k screen. But I miss the real estate I had, and don't like loosing resolution with a bigger scale. With a 5120x1440 wide screen, my want vs need ratio will re-balance. (Kinda like I need a $25k MT prop on my 45 year old, steam gauge Sierra) It's not 4k, but I don't use 4k - unless I'm watching something in real 4k.
I used to have 60Hz monitors back in the olden days. Once I went 120 on a big screen, I enjoyed the experience more. Rather noticeable to me in some regards. 3:2 pull down I think is the term. Also, I cannot tell the difference above 120Hz.
You are right, most people surf on their HHDs, and desktop computers seem most useful for YouToober and film creators and 3d thing makers. I'm neither.
I do use my phone a lot for surfing. I just wish I could fold up my giant mac into my pocket (yes, I know it is 60Hz). I would totally do a two screen with one vertical again if I could hide it from the wife.
Cool thing about this monitor is that it is huge for my aging eyes, good contrast, fast response time, decent brightness, has display port 1.2 and USB 3 hub, 60Hz 10 bit color, (75Hz with only 8bit color but I can't really notice that difference), VESA mount. Would get two if they had USB-C for the mac and hide it in the hangar. I think a graphics card with dual DP outs is needed to run them as dual monitors, or a cheap EGPU. Good deal indeed.
So two monitors for me is crossing the feng shui line, hence the reason I need a wider one. Thought someone else reading might need one like I need one.
Sorry if my aforementioned post was received as a put-down.
