Very Cool Wright Brothers Video

That's very cool. I had seen the one from the ground a long time ago but never knew one existed while in flight.

Well the Wrights were pretty good glider pilots, so you'd expect them to have a yaw string.
Yeah, but I can't believe they went up there without one of those Marconi machines! And I bet they didn't even file a flight plan!:yikes:

That is new to me too. Did you notice the piece of yarn on the front "elevator"?

Yep. Very sophisticated instrumentation.

I wanna know how they managed to lift that load with 20 HP.

The "pitchiness" is why pretty much only Orville and Wilbur could fly it. No namby-pamby built-in stability here.

The common wisdom was that the Wrights were full of it about having full control and ability to fly a full pattern - until they arrived in Europe and did demo flighst like this. No other aviators could do it at so well the time.

Simply the only turn coordinator guaranteed to always work and be 100% accurate... and it's easy to repair or replace. :D

That clip is amazing, BTW... did not know that existed.

I have read several books about the Wrights, They were only trying to get something for their efforts to discover the way to control the three forces: Pitch, Roll, and Yaw. They tried to sell to our Government with no success. That is why they were in Europe. Of course no one believed that they had flown because they were afraid someone would steal there patent if they showed every one how they did it. As it was a fellow named Curtis did just that. You need to read the book. Bob

Neat perspective on aviation.... thanks for sharing. I didn't know they had any video from that view till now.

If they had had the CAA or FAA the Wright Brothers couldn't have flew. Just think no medicals, no license, an experimental aircraft built with no inspections, no PMA parts ( some bicycle parts) No radios, no wheels, or floats, no placards, to not use contaminated fuel, landing and taking off from a beach, ( illegal in OR.) No multi prop rating. I guess it is a good thing that they snuck off to Kitty Hawk and did this in secret.:nono:
