Ack...city life
I just got word that Verizon thinks I owe them over $300. I had a zero balanance on Dec 03. They say it's because I've racked up some heavy minutes including texting. (I don't text.)

And it appears they are now charging for viewing V messages.

In the past when I have asked them to explain the various types of minutes I get blank looks and/or vague responses.

My concern is to get them to adequately explain themselves. Wish me good luck.

In store they could not explain the Useage Type code. They could not access my statement because that store is outside my "home billing area".

I went on-line but no where did it explain the Useage code. I called their helpline and all they could do was verify what the paper billing statement said. I said it is the statement I dispute. They said they can't help to decipher the code to determine what exactly I am billed for or why, for example, I am billed for calls between Verizon customers.

But they must have said a gazillion times, "You owe $298.40". This is for a period from Dec 03 to Dec 25.

Next stop, FCC complaint.

Unfortunately your result is pretty typical. I wish you good luck in finding someone at Verizon who isn't 18 years old in a cubical reading off cue cards.

Receiving text messages costs you I believe 15 cents now if you don't have a texting plan. It used to be 2 cents. But good luck getting it fixed!

I wonder if you got slammed by some unscrupulous ringtone provider. I found out the hard way that signing up for "free" ringtones sometimes get you subscribed to a service. In my case, that service texted me 5 times in 2 days. Better yet, there wasn't any way to get unsubscribed.
I've had good luck dealing with Verizon in the past. Just keep at it. You will find someone who has more than a 3rd grade education and considers customer relationship important.
Start with dialing 611 from the cellphone (AIRTIME FREE-just have your charger handy). If you can't get them to help, try the 800 number from a landline.

The thing that ticks me off the most is evidently V doesn't feel they have to divulge certain information or provide clarification, even when the request is made. Two, the common response from other users is paraphrased as, Good luck in getting that fixed, ie, just accept it. Sheesh.

Hmm. I got hit with a rather large Verizon bill this month... Perhaps I should look into it further..

Can you hear me now?

What I want to know is if you can turn off SMS capability entirely. I bet not.

You can disable 900 and 976 number on land lines. I'll bet the per message charge is too much of a cash cow for the cell company to let you turn it off.

It can be turned off. Anyone sending a message would get an error from the system saying that the message couldn't be delivered. I know a few students who have had texting cut off by their parents. Heh. :D

I had a couple of billing errors by Verizon, which have in turn made me look well over any bill that is more than normal. The only problem I've had is that by the time you've got a bill you've moved into the next billing month, so if you have an error on your plan or whatnot, you're going to have to call them again the following month to clean up any errors that occurred after your bill was issued. It's annoying, but *shrug* every choice for cell service is pretty bad in my opinion.
