Good to hear someone is actually succeeding at something to revitalize GA. Thumbs up for Vans.

What was the unit price?

I'll hold off my membership on the"this revitalizes GA!!" club until I know how much they went for.

Since the full kit price is ~$65,000 and they estimate ~800 hrs to build, and I would use a labor cost of ~$50/hr, I would have estimated ~$105,000 + some fudge factor.

Amazingly, $105k is just about what they estimated, per these links:

The first 12 will also have an "auto pilot, luxurious Oregon Aero seats and upholstery, and a special paint finish." Cost for those allegedly $115,000.

Not sure whether those numbers went up since the first news release.

Good! Someone in aviation needs to succeed.

Great bird from a great company. I salute them.

But much better built.

what makes you say that? they both meet the ASTM spec? surely both are designed with plenty of structural margin, considering they both come from respected aircraft design companies.

Meeting spec minimums does not necessarily equal quality. Just as barely not breaking the law doesn't automatically make you a refined gentleman and pillar of the community.

Specs don't address lots of things. LOTS.

TLU has a flycatcher and I flew in it with my friend - now maybe I'm just used to the Mooney and its over-engineered everything but it felt cheap and plastic-ey

The RV12 OTOH actually feels like an airplane.
