Paint is a 9, interior average 6-7' 1500 smoh, VFR instruments, no GPS. Has the O360 and gross weight increase. Solid little plane for hamburgers and weekend jaunts.

Plane looks good and the MX said its in better than average condition.

Can anyone SWAG a value on it? Reason I ask is its for sale and the MX told me the guy is selling it for way less than he should be. I was thinking of buying it, flying it for a couple months while I search for a Saratoga and sell for a small margin.

Just rough estimates are good on the bird. I know accurate pricing will be tough w/o details.

really bad idea, renting will be much cheaper unless there are no taxes in the sale and insurance for the few months

I'm sure the plane will be based somewhere with no sales tax :wink2:

Or, maybe he's just buying the plane for $1, and some aircraft spare parts for more

OK, PA28 with a 180, without pictures and looking it over it's tuff.

I'd say it probably WORTH 20-25k, I'd want to be in it for 18k or less and you're very safe.

Only thing that sticks out is the engine has a few hours on it, not sure the TBO on that one, if it's 2k it's not that bad, still I like to see between 100 to 1k TSMO

The MX said he wanted $25. I told him more like $20 with that runout engine. He said he'd prolly take it. Doesn't sound like all that gret of a deal for me. Someone, sure. But prolly not me.

It's not a BAD deal, I'd say it's fair, by no means a steal though.

Fair provided the engine does not throw seven. If it does its a disaster. How was it maintained? How was it flown? By how many different people? It. High time engine. I'd pay fifteen grand and hold my breath. It's old and tired. If the buyer is an excellent mechanic .......maybe.

If you think either of those strategies works out long term I've got a bridge to sell you.

What does tht mean?

Plane is owned by a guy who just doesn't fly it much at all. Maybe 10 hours a year. For $15k though, hell, I'd do it for that just to have a project that is already airworthy. I'd tinker with it and buy some updated stuff on eBay or Barnstormers.

What it means is that the engine is probably near its demise. Eventually one could spend a lot of money on this tired old thing not to mention time spent trying to fix it. It has an enamel overhaul and is a boat anchor.

You have a story on someone that had a issue?

Going through FAA CDs on a few planes, I've seen $1 or 1k etc more often than not.

How much time on the engine? $18-$24k?

Total time I don't know. Ohaulled in 94 and 1500 hours SMOh.

I always back into a purchase price range after anticipating post purchase costs and determining a final project value.

In this case my 0-360 was overhauled about a year ago for around $13,000... assuming you keep it VFR and maybe have about $5K worth of random things wrong and the plane would be worth say $35K with a new engine and polished then I would pay $17K for it. There's a number of assumptions with that though...

That's my take on it too..... it's reasonable, you might find a better deal if you want to make looking for the plane the project rather than the plane itself.

It's possible to spend 5K turning a 20K airplane into an 18K airplane.

Make sure the 180 HP STC is in order.....

Twenty grand would seem fair ,without seeing the aircraft. High time and older avionics ,aren't bringing a lot of money these days.

Write the check. You don't do mx anyway, so what do you care? 18, 20, 25.

Tinker with it?

pfft

Pay someone to pull a jug, IIRC #2 is the one. Have the cam and lifters all visually checked for corrosion. I think it takes a borescope to get into the back half of the case. If they are corroded from sitting, the engine is a rebuildable core. That's all.

Its a cheap investment vs paying $10K or more for a paperweight that's too big for your desk.

Douche bag alert.....watch out folks. This Whinner got called out in another thread and since he lost his battle, he comes to another thread to take pot shots.

Nice try troll..... Go lick your wounds somewhere else and whine about anyone who doesn't do their own MX.:rolleyes2:
