(really, we are, as is evidenced by the many nice ones on this board).

If you're not from here, and you don't get it... well... Laugh a little!

Having spent some time in 'Ingletucky', I've always loved the line about 'I look like some Port Aransas dope dealer...out on bail, just trying to get home'

Ya just gotta love the the author of Redneck Mother!

There's no dope dealers in Port A! :wink2:

Port Aransas is a wonderful little town, with world-class beaches and a great airport. After 15 months on the island, I can't imagine living anywhere else.

Our motto: "A quaint little drinking village, with a fishing problem!" :yikes::yikes:

I am feeling a little overdue for fish and beer on the island.

Any hangars available there?

We had a guy in the office over the Fourth who was talking to Mary and sounded JUST like you. I was in the house, overheard the conversation, and came bursting through the door, ready to ream you for not calling ahead (we were sold out) -- and it wasn't you!

I mumbled something and went back in the house. I'm sure the guy thought I was daft... :yesnod:

You need some Shiner and some beach time...

Jay:

You *are* daft - but in an endearing kind of way. We'll plan something as soon as practicable.

(Note to others: Jay and Mary and family are excellent hosts, their property is very comfortable and well-located. Spike says, "Check it out.")

---

So, any land available for lease at the airport, upon which additional hangars might be built?

I'm probably due back to Texas for a visit.... Work-wise, it would probably be McKinney/Dallas/Plano or Austin, though.

Austin rocks, and isn't far away, by air.

That's where we were in 2009, when we got the whim to go check out a beach in Texas. The rest is history. :)

Re: Daft. Yep. :D

Re: Our hotel. We have changed EVERYTHING since you were here, Spike. All the aviation art and memorabilia is up. Each room is now a different era of aviation history. Many more rooms have been remodeled. Many more new beds, etc.

As you know, you and your family saw the "old" Harbor Inn. Anyone who comes now will see the pre-born Amelia's Landing. Another off-season, and we'll be ready or prime-time, and officially changing the name.

A Joe Bob Briggs reference? You have been here a long while.

@Jay -- how easy is it to get from your place to the Lexington?

Mike:

Indeed - Joe Bob Briggs. I guess I am getting old, when what I think of as a "recent" cultural reference brands me as "old." I guess Dallas born and raised (with some out of town and out of state interludes) qualifies as a "long time."

---

The operative question is not, "Jay -- how easy is it to get from your place to the Lexington?"; the properly-formed inquiry would be, "Jay -- how easy is it to get to the Lexington from your place?," and the answer would be, "Very easy indeed."

Because, of course, you wish to start and finish in the vicinity of paradise.

As much as I was ribbin' ya about age, it was cool to find someone who enjoyed Joe Bob's reviews as much as me. I miss his style in a big way. He would be in major overload and grand style with all of the films of low quality that have been produce in recent times.

For those who aren't quite following what Spike and I are talking about.... Here is a Joe Bob Briggs Review of the movie, Machete. "Let’s take a look at those Drive-In Totals. Seventy-five dead bodies. Twenty-eight breasts. Dueling beasts (Segal and Ma-CHAY-te). One motor vehicle chase, with fleeing illegals. Phone crushing. One interesting place to keep your cell phone. One street fight, with soft taco..."

I was down that was on the 4th and the airport was PACKED. I had never seen so many lines of planes since the Texas Tech - UT game in Lubbock a few years ago.

I lived in San Antonio for 6 years. If I were to move back to Texas, Austin would be the place. But there are plenty of other great places to visit in Texas.

Very -- since you get to use our courtesy car when you fly in. It's about 30 minutes from here.

Well, unless there are multiple pilots. Then you guys get to have a drinking contest, to see who gets the car. :D

Austin ROCKS to visit, but you couldn't pay me to live there. I love the island life.

Yeah, the island nearly sunk beneath the weight of all of those "tourists, covered with oil." And it wasn't Aeroshell!

It was a fantastic weekend. The weather here has been PERFECT this year -- not too hot, always VFR. Amazing what a drought will do.

No, it was bubbling crude...

As a friend of mine used to say, the Gulf is like a giant toilet bowl and by the time the rotating water gets to the Corpus area it's pretty dirty...

Man, I almost forgot about Joe Bob. I didn't know he was from Texas. How did I not know that? I used to read him in the Orlando newspaper when I was in high school. (He may have been in the Atlanta paper, too, but I'm not sure).

My new favorite movie critic, The Filthy Critic, seems to have taken an extended vacation. But man he was good for a few (very crude) laughs. His ranking system is 1 through 5 fingers. You can guess which digit gets the one.

Actually, I'm always surprised by how clean the water is here. I just got back from spending the last four hours in the surf (well, with beer breaks, of course!) and can attest to the fact that the water was pristine.
