Type Rating Question

Can anyone clarify this one:

If you obtained a type rating on a private pilot certificate and then you upgrade to commercial, do you have to redo the type rating or does it automatically get upgraded to commerical on your license?

I believe all type ratings are done to ATP standards, therefore, it up grades automatically.

Greg is correct. The reason is as he says -- even if you do a type rating on a PP certificate, it must be done to ATP standards. For that reason, type ratings carry up all the way to ATP. Ref: FAA Order 8900.1 Section 5-728:

Regardless of the grade of certificate held, an applicant must meet the standards for a type rating in the ATP and/or type rating practical test standards (PTS). All type ratings within category and class held on a superseded certificate are carried forward to the new certificate level without further testing.
