The results were interesting. As you may have guessed, Pointless Babble won with 40.55% of the total twits captured; however, Conversational was a very close second at 37.55%, and Pass-Along Value was third (albeit a distant third) at 8.7% of the twits captured.

Which is more pointless:

1) Twits who use Twitter to in the "Pointless Babble" category
2) Twits who statistically analyze (1)

the verb is Twitter and that means the noun is Twit. Tweet makes no sense. If you send a Tweet it is Tweeting.

Twit is the right word, twitterers just have not realized that yet.

I think the colloquial is such that when someone uses twitter they are tweeting, and the proper title for said person is twit. Your way is probably grammatically correct, Scott, but since when has proper grammar mattered to those twits tweeting on Twitter? I just enjoy any excuse to call someone a twit.

The company I work for uses Twitter as a marketing tool which I thought was amusing for some reason, but hey, whatever works. Good for them!

Twits come from Twitter just like Pencils come from Pennsylvania...

You sure that they're not twitterers :D

Wouldn't you know Scott beat me to it.

ah hum, Twits twittering on Twitter. ;)

OK, which is more pathetic:

1) Twits on Twitter
2) Twits who study the tweets appearing on Twitter
3) Twits who discuss the study of tweets on Twitter on a web board?

Yes.

Stupid minimum number of characters for a post. That was five letters, right?

But don't things that twitter also tweet?

I remember when..... (people always run when I start a conversation with this )

a Tweet = a sound a bird made.
a Twit = someone slightly brighter than a moron, you know like the Spin Zone police. :wink2:
a Twitter = that funny feeling you get when you got your first real kiss.:blowingkisses: :yesnod:

I am about as ignorant of Twitter as anyone who was born into a house with a B&W TV and rotary phone, but I don't need a professional study to tell me that over 40% of "tweets" are pointless blathering. What a joke!

And the next largest set, "conversational", probably consists mostly of stuff that is about the same. Just because two or more twits tweet at each other, it's not necessarily conversation.
When I was a kid, anyone who made an effort to announce what they were doing every 5 minutes, even to their friends, got beat up. Even the girls. :D

I thought birds twittered too. And tweeted.

Nope you got it wrong.

Twit what twitterers do on twitter

Spin Zone: above your pay grade :yesnod::D

I guess I'm getting old because I certainly don't understand the younger generation's need to talk 24/7. I love my downtime. It's called mental health.

Twitter (and Facebook, too) have become very effective marketing tools for our museum. We have a Twitter feed specifically for the raffle plane so that people can track appearances, etc., and another for generic museum stuff.

Twits (n) use Twitter (n, as it's a proper name) to Tweet (v).

Contrary to popular belief, there are actually lots of very interesting people on Twitter (along with millions of morons, yes). The nice thing is that you have control over your own feed so you can set the SNR as you desire.

Personally, I've found Twitter to be an excellent, useful tool. I tweet my whereabouts when I'm on the road, and I follow a pair of TV stations in Madison to keep in the loop on local news when I'm far away.
